Hi Mel , thanks for the help . You may have pointed me in the right direction . The 1/35 Huey I would like to build is one that has the M158 seven tube rocket launchers . That is the seperate tubes that are bundled together with a shroud over the top . With all the 1/72 and a few 1/48 Huey's I've built none of them have the individual rocket launcher tubes strapped together . I just like the look of that type of weapons system . I haven't ordered or bought anything as yet , I want to make sure I get the right kit .

Thank's again for the help . Kind regards John

You get alot of weapon choices with that kit. The Miniguns,7 shot rocket pod that huge box shaped rocket pod and the grenade launcher.

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

The 71st Tactical Fighter Squadron the only Squadron to get an Air to Air kill and an Air to Ground kill in the same week with only a F-15 http://photobucket.com/albums/v332/Mikeym_us/

Not at home to check out my stash but the "Frog" kit with the Sharks decals is the best for all the extra armament you get with it, maybe kit # BA106.  The 40 mm grenade laucher, the mini-guns with 7 and 19 shot drocket pods are all included.  Not sure of the rest.  It looks like the kit you show is the "special edition" with extra decals if thats your cup of tea.  I don't know if you only get the mini-gun and 7 shot rocket pods, which I suspect.  Oh, don't use the "sight" that mounts to the combing of the instrument panel.  That wasn't a production run mount, early testing.  The sight pivots down from the top of the green house and is included but not shown in the instructions.

You can't go wrong with the MRC Academy UH-1C's.  Just a few errors or ommissions in the instructions.  Mainly the rotor head needs a few corrections and push pull tube additions.

Clear Left!

Glad to help and it appears you are ready to dive in. That is what I did. My Academy 1/35 C model is my first model attempt in over twenty years, and my first ever with PE. One other item though, I would recommend a Dremel drill with the cutting bits. I had to grind or cut a lot of pieces of the model for PE parts and the Dremel really paid off.

Good luck and hope to see you post pictures of your work.

Hi Charlie , thanks for the reply . I was searching around squadron.com yesterday and I came across a listing for some Testors micro sheer Photo-Etch Trimmers . As you said a good pair of snips will be invaluable .

I also spent a while going through my back issue's of FSM magazine's and found in the November 2003 issue an article on how to apply Photo-Etch parts . There's lot's of step by step pic's and everything seems straight forward enough . I already have a nice collection of tweezers . Squadron also had some bending pliers listed for Photo-Etch parts , I should think about those as well .

I was hoping someone might be able to help me on another question which is not related to the 1/35 UH-1C , I also saw some Eduard 1/35 AH-1W Super Cobra Interior Detail set [EU32090] . I have the Academy/MRC AH-1T+ Gold Cobra and the AH-1W Super Cobra NTS update kits . Are the cockpit console layout the same with both Cobra's as I was thinking of buying two of the Cobra Photo-Etch parts if they suit either Cobra.

Thanks again for the info on the UH-1C .. Kind regards John

Good Da  John

I have the 1/35 academy C model and I like the craftsmanship Academy put into the model. There are inaccuracies, mainly the bench seat, and rotor control push/pull tubes but it is not to terribly bad. I also purchased all the PE kits for the build and love them. I am finding out I will end up using only about 70 to 75 percent of the PE parts because many of the pieces do not really show very much when added and some are just too difficult to add and in my opinion are just not worth the effort.  Where I have used PE it really makes the model jump out at you, so overall I am happy I purchased them.

If you go with the PE I would highly recommend a good snip for cutting them loose and a bending tool. I also found tweezers to be really important in positioning many of the PE parts. I have a bunch of them with different shapes. They cam in handy, but also found myself inventing ways to install those tiny PE pieces. I would also recommend a good scrapping tool because I used mine often mainly cleaning of excess flash. Pay close attention to the instructions and use lots of reference pictures when you are building the model and you should find a happy balance where you want your model to be at when finished. My model, I am just hoping to have done by Christmas.

Anyway, good luck on your choice and looking forward to see your build.

Charlie.

Thinking of buying a 1/35 UH-1C Huey

Hi everyone , after seeing the amazing work and craftsmenship going on with 1/35 scale Huey builds on these FSM forum pages , My curiosity has gotten the better of me . I've had a bit of a search around some of the online hobby stores and I like the look of the Academy MH-12701 1/35 UH-1C Huey . I also saw two nice MRC UH-1C's that had grenade launcher's on the nose but I think I would prefer this one .

I've also seen some of those Eduard photo-etched Interior/Exterior and Armament sets . I haven't used photo-etch products before , so I'm not sure whats involved in how to cut them from the sheet there on and what products you use to glue them in place .

So is my choice of the UH-1C a good kit or are the other 1/35 Huey kits a better option .

I just thought I might ask for some assistance before I spend any money . Confused [%-)]

                                       Kind regards John
