Aftermarket 1/35 huey armament?
Posted by paleocaver on Thursday, November 27, 2008 4:16 PM

New guy here. Back into modeling at age 43 with a 9-year old son who's getting into it. Built a lot when I was a teen. Man how things have changed. Don't know if scratch building and photoetch was popular in early 80's when I was doing it, but man, you guys are really good at this now! I'm learning a lot from the site, forum and magazine.

We've built a few cars lately and it's got me back into the groove, but now I've tackled a 1/35 UH-1D, the Dragon kit. Were building it for a very good friend who calls them his savior in Vietnam.

As I got to the door gun assembly, most of the parts pretty much shattered/broke as I cut them off. Any idea where I can get some replacement aftermarket parts, namely the door gun, for the model?  Tired Cobra Company but they are down until further notice.

 Thanks ------Scott

If you can find them, Dragon's US Vietnam Helicopter Crew figure set has a door gun. I bought two awhile back to add them to an old Revell "slick" Huey. I think the Dragon Modern Machine Gun set comes with a pair of just the guns, no mounts.

Scott,

welcome to teh forum!  I have had the same problem with the new Dragon kit.  For some reason the plastic is very brittle.  I assume you are building a standard Vietnam slick.  If so, you need 2 M60D's and the corresponding M23 mounts.   unfortuantely, the Dragon helicopter crew kit only comes with one M60D and M23 mount as well as 1 M60A.  The Cobra Company set is really the way to go, but if you can't get one or the Dragon helicopter crew set, e-mail me and I'll see what I can do.  Good luck!  Please post pics of your build if you get a chance.

OK, I just saw the weapons sets at a LHS. It is the Dragon Vietnam weapons set, not the Dragon Modern Machine gun set that comes with the M-60Ds. It has 2. If you do not need the mounts, this set will do just fine.

Not really.  UH-1D/H's rarely used M60A's.  However, I have seen them used occasionally.  Usually on a bungee cord (yes, even some slicks had em).  You really need M60D's for an accurate model of the most common UH-1D/H slick as well as the M23 mounts.

Thats what I said, it has the M60D x2 (door guns) in the set. There are also two of the standard ground punder M60As in the set. I think also a couple of SEAL chopped style as well. If you do not need to replace the mounts (they did not gete destoyed in removal from the sprues) these will do fine.

Sign - Oops [#oops]  Sorry about that!  I have the set so you'd think I'd know.  Unfortunately, in their infinite wisdom, the Dragon Huey and Helo crew set only comes with 1 M23 mount though.  As I mentioned above, I'd be happy to help with a second if needed.
