60's US Army helicopter drab color?

Thanks for all the help, everyone.  It seems like how dark it looks depends on the gloss of the finish and the lighting, of course.  As the paint oxidizes I think it gets lighter.  The H-21 and H-34 are closest to what I remember.

According to Lundh's U.S. Army Aviation Color Schemes and Markings, 1942 to Present, you are looking at FS595 14087. In the MM range you could use Olive Drab 34087 and gloss it up. i got to hang around the Flat Iron H-34 at Ft. Wolters in the late 60's which was done up in the gloss olive with high vis markings. Quite a number of the B model UH-1's we trained on in the gun course at FT. Rucker in 69 were also finished this way.

I think we are talking about different colors then, the green I was thinking of is lighter than olive drab and are very green like this one.

Some are definately more of an olive drab color and that sounds more like what you are looking for. It also sounds like you found something that works.

Thanks, Aaron.  The color I remember is pretty dark for a drab but it hasn't got the same green as helo drab.  I had some Tamiya Olive Drab which looks a bit dark for what I would put on a WW II airplane, but with the Future top coat it gets darker yet and looks close to what I remember when I was in school on the UH-34. 

Helo drab is much darker than olive drab so I'd agree that is not right. If you are talking about the green I've seen on some restored UH-34s and looking though my paints I'd probably try Dark Green which is 4726 in Model Master Acryl. This is a bit lighter than MM Green Drab and "greener" than MM Olive Drab. Thats just eyeballing the paints and comparing to photos though, hopefully someone will be able to provide a more technical answer for you.
