Blackhawk, stabilizer update.
Posted by Lloyd on Thursday, January 8, 2009 8:32 AM

Hi

I read in a thread here there was a horizontal stabilizer update for the Aussie Blackhawks in 1/35 scale. Are these still available somewhere? I think it was made by Petes's Hangar if I recall correctly.

Thanks for any help.

The Aussie S-70-C Blackhawk uses the same folding stabilator found on US MH, HH, and SH models.  I don't know of any from Pete's Hanger, but, it can be found in the Academy 1/35 MH-60G and *AH-60L DAP kits.  It is also available from Cobra Company in resin in their UH-60L Correction/Update set.

* The DAP is actually an MH-60L.  The US military doesn't use the AH designation with Blackhawks since they are not Attack Helicopters, but helicopter gunships, different role and jobs....but thats another story.

The Pete's Hangar stabilator has been out of production for some time now (I actualy swapped one for a 1/48 Fw-190D-9). You just need the rectangular tail as has been pointed out. The 'coffin' shaped tail plane as found in kits of early US Army Blackhawks was not used on the Australian B'hawks.

I think you mean the UH-60L resin update set, isn't that correct?

If anyone knows of any interior shots of the Australian Blackhawk that would be helpful, I'd like to see how the seats are laid out. I know it's different, but I'm not sure if it will be worth the effort to rearrange the seats.

You are right, it is the UH-60L Correction/Update set (correction made above).

I don't have any pics handy, but the common interior seating layouts are either no seats, only 4 seats on the back wall, or the 4 seats against the back wall and 4 seats running down each side of the cabin facing the troop doors.  The gunners' seats are usaully installed in all the above layouts.  All of these are quite easy to do.

If you search on here for "Aussie Blackhawks", there have been quite a few threads about building them with lots of great info.

I have plans to do one in the future too.

Good luck.

Ok thanks. I've been gathering some reference but not much interior stuff yet. Your description helps though.

I was just at the local hobby shop checking the Gunze paints out but can't quite match up the fs numbers, 30219, 34082, and 37038. That was forest green, dark tan and flat black suggested in another thread here. I thought I'd find the closest colours, but anyway, do Gunze make those specific numbers?

I'm actually starting on this now, I've got the Eduards PE etc. I'd like to order the Cobra update but I'm not big on sending my credit card details through the post, or email. I don't think they accept paypal.

I got the Novascale decals today, they look good. (although, UN markings, I don't think so ;) I haven't decided if I'll go with the Aussie Hawk yet, may just stick to the UH-60L but obviously it's the forest green and the dark tan I need to nail down. I've got tons of different Gunze greens, I wonder whats closest?

That will help with the colours, I should be able to eyeball it from that. Still haven't decided on which version but if I can grab the DAP version of the Blackhawk, that will get the correct stabilator at least. Good reference anyway, some extra wiring I may throw in there. Thanks!
