Those are nice John builds, but I believe they are S model. I'm not sure when the Army went to the twin saddle fuel tanks. I believe most of the ones used in Korea were D's with the single fuel tank. That reminds me of another mistake in my kit. The fuel tanks were strapped inside a shell. None of the kits show the shell and I have not decided whether to try a build a vacuum form to make a fuel tank shell for the bottom. I was hoping this build would be a quick and easy build, but hanging with Ray he has made me open my eyes and notice everything inaccurate in museum aircraft which I now use to judge models with. Big Smile [:D] Also the D's did not have a horizontal stabilizer. That was added later to newer models. Comparing the Academy kit to the Revel the tailboom section is much finer in detail and scale I believe. I will post some pictures hopefully soon of the tailboom assembly from the Academy kit.

These forums are great for learning all these little pieces of information.

Again nice build and thank you.

Interestingly the OH-13 is the first Helicopter kit I ever bought and built . The mid 1980's if I recall .

I'm pretty sure I built them in a couple of days , you can tell by the lack of painting I did on them both . I guess back then I was too excited and just wanted to have them finished .

I didn't know untill I read this thread about the streachers being angled inwards , I guess Revell got it right way back then

                                         Kind regards John

Italeri makes the kit in 1/48th, nice kit, but I think it's OOP right now. MRC and Revell both did it in 1/35th, the Revell kit is hard to find, but I think it's a better lit(I've built both)

Thanks Ray, the 1/72 is just a little too small. I'm trying to build as much as I can find in 1/35 and 1/48. The 1/32nd scale are just going to be a few special birds I build, e.g. cobra, huey, and the Apache. Most will hopefully be 1/35. Hopefully Eduard will build a future PE kit for the H-13 in 1/35 scale. It is really a nice constructed model, just needs a few add-ons.

Charlie,

Glad I could help. Glad you got your Apache as well.  If you'd build in 1/72, Eduard makes a pE set for the Italeri OH-13 kit.

Thanks Ray, just what I needed. The litter platforms are angled like the museum bird. Those who are building the Academy H-13 MASH bird realize that the model had the litter platform parallel to the aircraft or perpendicular to the crosstubes which is incorrect. The seats are incorrect also. The real Army version had a metal bucket seat that had a cushion in it. The model has the civilan bench seat. Also the model lacks control tubes to the rotors from the cabin area. The model just has short tubes hanging over the fron of the engine but not connecting to anything. While there is a lot of scratch building requirements the model is still a excellent canidate for adding detail. It is a shame no one builds PE parts for it.

Again thanks a bunch Ray. These images will help and next time your down I have over 60 detail closeup photos of the H-13s in the museum I will give you. I was really interested in the cockpits, control assemblies and tail rotor control wire assembly.

BTW, I won two bids on ebay tonight. I got a 1/32 Revell and 1/48 Monogram Apache A model. Party [party] Great price on both.

Charlie asked for some OH-13 pics with litters and I figured some of you other guys might be interested.  Here's what I have.  I hope they help, Charlie.  By the way, it looks like several different types were used over the years.
