1/35 Dragon Huey Question
Posted by Retired Gunpilot on Saturday, February 21, 2009 3:12 PM

Is there any real differences between the Dragon UH-1D and the UH-1 DEER models other than the obivious German versus US markings and possible armament. I have had the US version on back order for a couple of months but noticed the DEER version is now available.

The basic plastic and PE are all the same.  Other than the figures, armament, and decals, the Heer version also has some extra PE for a rescue hoist.

Thanks Gino, I'm getting tired of waiting for the Dragon US UH-1 and wondered if I could just buy the DEER version and get some custom decals somewhere else. I really don't care whether I have armament on it or not.

If you do decide to arm it, Cobra Company has the M23 Doorguns mounts in resin.  They are quite nice.

Good luck.

Hi Charlie,

As others have said, you will be ok with the HEER version.   I did a late Vietnam version with the Cobra toilet bowl, M-60 and some interior odds and ends.   I also did a ton of scratch building since just about all of the small parts in the Dragon kit are waaay overscale.   That being said, if you spend the time, you can come up with a pretty respectable model (not to mention that you have no other choices for 1/35 scale hueys).  Still hoping that someone will finally get around to releasing a new-tool Huey.

Check out the ARC helo forum. There is a lot of good Huey related info on it.  I have a build log of my Huey (I think it is titled Dragon UH-1 / Last Army Huey in Vietnam.. or something like that).  If you sort by # of views, it is on the second page.   Gino also has a great post on one of his Huey's.

The only thing you will not get with the HEER kit is the 4 person flight crew and the single M-60 mount.

Good luck,

John
