Huey cargo floor information wanted
Posted by randompenguin on Monday, March 2, 2009 3:18 PM

Hi,

I am trying to create a new floor for the dragon UH-1D because the kit floor is lacking any of the tie-down ring detail. I've studied hundreds of pictures and cannot ascertain the exact pattern of where all of these mounting points go. Obvoiusly, if the seats are fitted in the photos it is pretty clear where these points are but I am building this floor (and the bulkhead walls) with the idea of offering this as an aftermarket resin set so want it to be correct. If anyone has any plans or layout drawings showing the position of these mounting points I would be greatly appreciative.

Also, if anyone has any clear photos of a D model and a B/C model interior walls WITHOUT the soundproofing fitted, that would be great. (I want to offer this as an optional set).

What do you guys think, UH-1D & UH-1B/C replacement floor and interior walls, with or without soundproofing. Is it something you would buy ?

TIA,

Drew

I'll look tomorrow at work and see if I can find a old -20 maintenance manual that shows the floor. I believe there use to be a drawing that had all the measurements based on computing weight and balance. As long as you know where the start point is you should be able to create a floor fairly accurately. I'll see if I can find the measurement formula also. If I can find it I will make a pdf file of the drawing.

As to the walls I would definitely like to have walls with no insulation. I wish someone would make the insulation blankets also in very thin resin that can added.

Charlie,

Thanks for that, it will really help.

I will talk to my resin guy and see if it is possible to have the soundproofing as a separate part (it may be too thin to cast well). It would make more sense to have everything you need in one box though.

Thanks for your help.

The Huey interior pieces sound great.  I would use them.  How about the same for a Blackhawk?  I have drawings for the floor tie-downs and fittings on a Blackhawk.  I have pics of an exposed roof structure too that you could use.

I wasn't able to find a -10 or 20 today at work and I have a friend up at the ARDEC looking though the archives to try and find what you need. It may take a while, but I will be trying as fast as I can to get you this information.

Drew,

I think I can help you out, but it might take a day or so.  I know there is a thread around here where that floor diagram has been posted with the tiedowns.  as for the rear bulkhead, I have quite a few pics of them with and without the soundproofing.  I'll get that together and post em here hopefully tonight.  Sounds like a great project!

Ray - thanks. The TM stuff is really useful, I'm sure the photos you have will help out too. Apart from the floor layout drawing (Fingers crossed Charlie !) I am nearly there research wise, I think. Should be able to start the masters very soon.

Gino - Will take a look at the Blackhawk data, need to get this project underway first.

Thanks all,

Drew

Ray,

Excellent stuff, thanks. (Thanks also Charlie for the scans !). I will get some interior plans and elevations drawn up this weekend and see if there are any areas that I need more info on. (I'll post them here to get your feedback). Looks like there is more than enough here to keep me busy for a few days.

Thanks again for all your help.

Drew,

glad to help.  Please keep us informed.  If this works out, would you consider other scales like 1/48 or 1/72? Can never have enough Huey AM parts!

Sure, don't see why not. 1/48 should be no problem, it depends a lot on what you would see in 1/72. Let's see how this goes and I will look at the other scales, probably a bigger market there also.

Trying to find a dot-pattern plate (etch or plastic) to replicate the floor panels could also be a problem in the other scales (unless someone knows of something?) It is hard enough trying to find something in 35th !
