PLEASE HELP
Posted by namvet66 on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 10:50 AM
1/35 ACADEMY SIKORSKY AH-60L DAP BLACK HAWK.

In the process of putting blades on main rotor assembly one of the insert peg connecting the blade to rotor broke off. Now I am faced with connecting one of the blades FLAT ON FLAT surface NO INSERT PEG.

What is the best way to get this blade to stay on the rotor assembly working with two flat surfaces?

If you are familiar with this model you know that the blades are long and there is no support except where the blade meets the rotor assembly.

Any help you can give me on this will be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks

I'm in the boat, but twice. I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet, but had planned to find a "pin", metal wire or something, roughly the diameter of the recieving end. Drill into rotor and fix pin to that. You could probably go larger than existing hole as well. Then you could still go no glue, and be able to remove them for transporting.  good luck!

Bob,

I see you are venturing into the "sling wing" area.  Fermis is right about "pinning" the blade as your best option.  A section of paper clip would work well.  Go with something stiff, stay away from wire for something like a heavy rotor blade.  Look forward to seeing your build and meeting you in the near future.

Hey guys thanks for the idea about pinning the blade.

I will locate a drill set, hopefully local but if not I may have to order, than I will go with your suggestions.

Mel I hope we can meet down the line also. Yes I am giving "sling wing" area a try.

Mel any idea if anyone in Lafayette sales a mini drill set or pin vises?

Take care and thank again for the tips.

You should be able to get a pin vise and wire gauge drill bits from any well stocked hardware store. I've seen them in most chain stores (Home Depot, Orchard Supply etc).

Bob,

You need to invest in a Dremel tool with variable speed.  It really does come in handy for lots of projects besides model buidling.  I don't know how small you can get drill bits at Lowes or Home Depot, worth a visit.  Also don't know if Hobby Lobby would have a pin vise and bits.  Might visit Harbor Freight behind Picadilly.  I just came offshore today or I'd invite you over and use my tools to pin your blade.  You could also check out Big Boy Toys.  Micro-Mark Tools always has sets on sale.  Send me an E-mail if you want to call me this week at work and I'll send you the local number.
