Thanks for the pointers Gino! Comments, suggestions, pointers etc are allways appreciated Smile [:)]  I was going to stain the edges,, but the stained moulding sounds like a better idea. I wasn't sure about the tires as well.

Looking good.  A couple pointers though.  One, paint the tires black.  They look weird in camo and rubber doesn't paint well.   Paint tends to dryrot rubber and flakes off easily.  Second, you should finish the edge of the dio base.  All you need to do is add some stained moulding that can be bought at any DIY store.  Cut it to fit and nail or glue it in place.  It improves the look greately.

More pics
Posted by DustOffUH1 on Monday, October 19, 2009 3:40 PM

Just a couple of quick pics. 1 outside, and the one inside if you look in the lower left hand corner, I made a lighted firepit. I have a kit to make lighted signs, so I used a part of that. For now the "fire" is just red, but I may try to make a light of red, blue and orange. The title is Stranded. I still want to build and paint some figures for it. Later in the week, I might post some close ups of the weathering/dust I added. Whoops,, there's a giant leaf in the background of the outside pic :)

The De-ice cable is connected to the deice distributor, located on top of the Bifilar cover. (the top of the rotor head) The cable is routed through clamps to the De ice connector at the base of each main rotor blade. Near the end of the M/R hub, the cable has a branch which runs to the bottom of the M/R hub and connects to the M/R blade droop stop. So, when the M/R de ice is turned on the blade leading edge and the droop stop pin are heated to prevent icing, or in the case of the droop stop, freezing in the "fly" position and allowing the blades to droop to dangerous angels upon shutdown of the acft. Without further ado, pics!

Shot f droop stop with M/R blade rmvd or clarity (or maintenance)

Same concept fr the tail rotor blades. Cable comes from T/R de ice stator and connects to T/R blade

Hows that for TMI?

Here is a thread that lists just about all the available 1/35 helo aircrews.  The Nemrod set is probably the best and most current.

Done,,, well Almost
Posted by DustOffUH1 on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 10:06 AM

She's almost done. Tonight I'm going to use my weathering pastels, to add some dust/dirt to the windows and such. I'd also like to add some 1/35 scale soldiers/flight crew. So if any of you can point me in the right directions for those it would be appreciated :) I also didn't make any tire tracks yet,, just not sure which way I want her posed. Anyway,, here she is so far!

Thanks Gino! I'll check this out on the "big screen" tomorrow. I don't have high speed at home, viewing this on my blackberry. Been applying decals tonight.

The cables on the rotor head are the same for each rotor.  The top one goes from the center hub out to each rotor blade connector.  About 1/3 of the way down each cable, there is a "T" connector and a second cable goes around the blade root and attaches to the underside of the root.

Here is how I did it.

Technical Question
Posted by DustOffUH1 on Thursday, October 8, 2009 3:03 PM

Hi Folks,

A technical question. When I was adding the hoses/hydraulics, it looks like there's only 2 that should go down to the cyclic part. Is that correct, or should there be 4 total? I'll attach some pics to hopefully help explain what I'm talking about. Also,, I'll "probably try to paint where they connect to make it look like there are actually connectors. But its gonna be a tiny bit of paint for sure! Anyway the twine I used looks pretty good,, I think anyways. I've had that roll for about 20 years now and used it off and on for various things. As allways thanks for the comments and suggestions. Back to my real job for now. Oh first pic shows the 2 hoses going down,, the second pic is the other side where it looks like there would be no place to connect them. PS I also got the cables/hoses to lay down after I took the pics :)

Thanks Ray! Appreciated :) I decided to work on what I originally started this thread for last night. But one of the main rotor blades snapped off,, and it really didn't snap off, it almost seemed like it melted off. Really weird. I had no paint where I glued it, but I think maybe it wasn't inserted all the way into the rotor head, & maybe I used too much glue?? and just may have bent/melted to a point of no return. So I sanded both pieces, reglued, and let it sit overnight. So, back at it after work! I found some black twine that looks like it'll work well for the cables/hydraulics, on the main rotor.

Thanks very much! I appreciate the nice comments Wink [;)] I actually came across a thread yesterday in this forum with an Apache that has a "similar" pattern.

Yep,, Its my build, and I'm gonna be the one looking at it,, so what the heck.

That's cool- nice freehand work. It kind of reminds me a little of Marine camo on their carrier birds, I've never seen the Japanese one's you're talking about. Hey- unknown is unknown, you're building this one for you, if you like it, that's all that matters. Nothing wrong with a "one off" or a "what if".

Thanks! Nope its not really modeled after anything in use. Its just a pattern I freehanded, that I "thought" was my own idea. But I have since seen Japanese heli's done up in a similar pattern. So I must have subconsciously gotten the idea :) So my US decals I'm going to put on it may upset some of the true scale modelers. But what the heck :) Its painted now. One of the decal sets in the kit is from an "unknown" unit,, so I'll probably use those.

Looks nice- interesting camo, is that painted up after a real unit? Just haven't seen anything like that before (sorry if I missed a previous post that talked about it, I just skipped ahead to the pictures Blush [:I]) looks cool. Thumbs Up [tup]

Glad you sorted out that exhaust issue, surprised you haven't been getting more of a following with this one.

Whoops! There I fixed it :) I didn't even realize I put the exhaust covers on backwards. I fixed that last night, and got the bottom painted with the cammo pattern. Luckily it wasn't too difficult to fix. I just used a new blade and patience. Then I had to sand of course and repaint. Tonight, I get started with the decals. Once those are on and its clear/dull coated and finished, I'll post some more pics. Then onward to the next project. PS I'm not a Packer or Viking fan. Just figured it would be an interesting game to watch ;)

Well, I finally got back at it. She's not done yet, but getting close. I still have to paint the bottom, add all the decals, and then clear coat. The main rotor isn't glued in yet. I'm waiting to do that once the painting, decals, dull coat is done. I also have to glue on the windshield wipers. Hopefully when I post the pics they're not too big, small etc. I haven't used photobucket in a while and also haven't posted any pics here in a while :)

I'll be posting more pics of the build soon. I got a bit sidetracked because of the NHL playoffs. I'm working on the cabin seats now. Kida tedious. But I'm following the directions from a posted review for this model, which helped Greatly! This is what I'm working on now. Yesterday I did the 4 rear/back row, cabin seats:

"The most difficult aspect of the kit was installing the cabin seats. If you do this according to the instructions, you'll end up tearing your hair out. The problem is that the seats are sandwiched between the ceiling and floor, and each seat has a pair of separately molded angled legs. I suggest doing it this way: Assemble the seats per instructions in step 4, but don't cement the legs to the seats or attach the seats to the ceiling at this point. Now, go to step 5 and cement the rear cabin bulkhead (B47) to the floor, making sure it's square to the surface. Add the cabin sides (B28 and B29), too. Now dry-fit the ceiling and make sure the outer edges off the sides line up with the outer edges of the ceiling. Tape the assembly and let the glue dry overnight.

Still with me? Now remove the ceiling and paint the interior parts, but not the bottoms of the seats yet. Next cement the back row of seats (type C) to the ceiling, and once they are set, use slow-setting plastic cement to attach the legs to the seats. While the legs are still pliable, dry-tape the ceiling (with seats attached) to the rest of the cabin and use tweezers to align the bottom of the legs with the dimples in the floor. Allow the legs to dry. Repeat the process for all the rest of the seats. Once everything is set, spray the bottom of the seats and legs and you can finally cement the entire assembly. I used tiny dabs of super glue on the bottoms of the legs - all 24 of them!"

vector123,

Do you mean that you're looking for pictures of Blackhawks? If so, there's one link towards the top of this thread, and you can also go to airliners.net, and use their picture search engine. I use that site a lot looking for paint schemes for planes and helicopters. Plus they just have some really nice pictures of planes. I change my PC desktop wallpaper often ;)

Thanks! I probably screwed up the first picture in PhotoBucket. I haven't done any work on it the past 3-4 days. My brother came up to visit. But I should be working on it again tonight or tomorrow night. I don't have high speed internet at home (I live in the middle of nowhere). So I mostly will do my posting durring the day when I'm at work.

Joe,

very familiar with that operation, but when I do it, it just puts a microscopic view in the upper left hand corner, same size.
