The Michigan State Police used a M model Huey (received surplus from the Army NG) and deployed ES (Emergency Support) teams from it.  I have an inflight shot but will scan it for you.

They dumped them years ago due to budget requirements.

I found a photo of Ventura County's older helicopter. It was a TH-1L which can be fairly easily modified from a UH-1C.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Dept in Colorado bought two surplus UH-1B's from my Guard unit in Colorado in the mid 70's. They crashed one, I don't know what happened to the other

They were painted totally white

Ventura County Sherriff's department in California uses a Bell 205 (UH-1D, UH-1H) for law enforcement, SAR and firefighting. Prior to this aircraft they had a military surplus UH-1B or UH-1C. It had a similar yellow and blue paint scheme to their current helicopter.

The California Department of Forestry had some UH-1B or C helicopters at one time.

You won't find many in service in the US anymore. There were some crashes and the lack of maintenance records from the military resulted in military surplus 204 based (UH-1B, C, E, F) helicopters being made restricted (crew only) by the FAA severly limiting their usefulness for fire and law enforcement.

The German Bundesgrenzschutz used the Huey, but I believe it was a later model. I'll get back to you if they had used the UH-1C or not.

Gino,

Small correction. Bell 204B was civil version of the UH-1B.  All original manufactured civil 204's that I have seen had the extended tailboom with baggage compartment and a 205 rotorhead with 48ft. blades (UH-1B had 204 head and 44ft blades).  The UH-1C was strictly designed as an interim gunship and none were manufactured for the civilian market. That being said, many have since found their way there.

I'm sure someone does. You can scroll through the below link and see if you find any.  If there are none currently wearing police colors, I'm sure they did at one time.  The UH-1C (Bell 204 Civil designation) was pretty much made obsolete by the D & H (Bell 205), and N (Bell 212 and 412 w/4 blades) models.  They are not even made by Bell any longer.  If you can't find any pics, just pick a color scheme you like and do it up as that unit.

Good luck.

Police/SWAT UH-1C ???

G'Day All,

I'm Currently Working on the Academy UH-1C as an Unarmed aircraft and am tossing up what scheme to apply. I'm using this build to work out any wrinkles in the kit for a later RAAF UH-1B build so it's just a bit of fun really and had the concept of finishing it as a Police or if Possible a SWAT/ESU type groups to put some left over SWAT figures to use. Does anyone know of any countries or counter terrorism units that operated the UH-1C and if so where could I find some pics of these aircraft. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Cairnsy
