As I said on ARC, some Chinooks have .50 cals mounted on the rear ramp (as well as MH-53s but as you say they are 1/48)

Andy,

Think HAL-3. I believe every detachment had at least one 50 cal armed gunship:

I have a bunch more of HAL-3 but you get the idea. As far as Army goes, think Nighthawks and Fireflys.  These were perimeter defense birds equipped with either C-130 landing light clusters (Fireflys) or Starlight scopes and Xenon searchlights (Nighthawks).  Many, but not all, had a 50 cal in one door.  Here's a few shots for ya:

There were other one-off Hueys with 50 cals as well. Also, smoke ships frequently carried 50 cals for some extra firepower when flying low and slow in advance of a CA in a hot LZ.  Hope that helps.

I found a couple more for ya:

A select few Army D/H model Huey's did carry .50's in the doors, and maybe a gunship or two, but I can't remember for sure

  Gentlemen,

 here is a question:

.50 cal with air-cooled barrel - which helicopters do carry/did ever carry those?

I have a chance to get 500 pieces of 1/35 scale air-cooled brass barrels, but before I spend any money in dead wood, it is always nice to make a little research...

So here I am trying to figure out all possible options for conversions....well at least the most popular ones.

1.Pave Hawk with external ammo boxes and 50cal/minigun mounts (started it a year ago and stopped just cuz needed good barrels)

2. Kiowa port side 50cal  (Floyd, any interest in this?)

3. Some CH-53s have 50cal on the ramp (but thats 1/48 so doesn't count LOL)

4......?

 any Hueys? Chinooks?

Thanks!

 Andy
