Blackhawks? The Best in '48 or '72 scale?
Posted by jadgpanther302 on Monday, June 1, 2009 6:25 PM

I am looking for a really good black hawk kit in either 1/48 or 1/72 scale. I need a reasonably priced kit and want good, if not great fit. Accuracy is not a problem. Thanks.

Hey Paul,

Really ... thats all going to depend on how early or late a Blackhawk you want. Me .... I like Academy's 1/35 AH-60L DAP Blackhawk. I know you said 1/48 or 1/72, but this is a great kit, and at a decent price. Plus, crew and figures are easier to find in 35 than in 48, but thats just me.

Also ... check out http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com , its got pretty good reviews for lots of kits. You might find one that more suits you.

Hope that helps.

Hasegawa and Italeri both make decent UH-60 and SH-60 kits in 1/72. Personally think the Italeri are a little nicer, but I've heard the ultimate H-60 in 1/72 is made by combining parts from both brands.

Hobbyboss has recently released a couple of SH-60 kits that are different versions from what Hasegawa and Italeri have done. They have had decent reviews comparing well with the Italeri & Hasegawa kits. Their UH-60 kits did not receive very good reviews and is supposed to be quite inferior to the others out there.

Acadmy and Italeri both make differeent Blackhawk variants in 1/48. I have built the old Academy/Minicraft UH-60A a long time back. It is a decent kit.

I recently built an Italeri Seahawk in 1/48 that was actually quite good. I know they make a Blackhawk and I am betting it is based off the same kit. Also, Eduard makes a PE set for both kits. The fit was good, the detail was good.. I would do it again.

Excuse me.. Is that an Uzi?

If you really want one you could convert a SH-60B Seahawk to one.  I have the kit and overall it is a good one.  It is also reasonably priced.  Here is a link.
