1:48 Jolly Green?
Posted by PontiacRich on Saturday, June 6, 2009 7:10 PM

Did anyone ever make a 1:48 Jolly Green Giant?

I built a Jolly Green when I was an early teen, but I can't remember the scale.  I've done a preliminary search on ebay but all I come up with is 1:72 kits.  my memories are hazy about the kit I built as a kid but I thought the rotor span was around one foot.

Any help would be appreciated!

Think someone did one in resin, but not a great kit from what I heard, only other one out thier is the one currently being put out by Lindburg. Think that mold has been though several manufacterors starting with Aurora.

A 1/48th scale kit is on a lot of wish lists

Revell did do the Super Jolly in 1/48. It has been released under several boxings/marking options. (CH-53D, HH-53C etc.) Perhaps you are thinking of this kit? It did have quite a rotor span. Revell Germany did the most recent reissue of the kit. And there is a conversion kit out there to convert Hasegawa's SH-3 to the HH-3 with the sponsons and rear ramp.

Revell and Lindberg have HH-3 Jolly Green Giant kits in 1/72, the rotor span is about 12" so that is probably what you built. Both kits are very simple and show their 1960s roots, however I have seen both built into nice models.

The Revell can be hard to find, but Lindberg recently re-issued their kit so it is easy to find. If you want more detail you can kit bash them with a more modern SeaKing kit, the Revell and Fujimi Seakings seem to be popular for this.
