Israeli Apache Colours (First model)
Posted by Maverick0B on Monday, July 20, 2009 12:54 PM

Ahoy Dudes

So I'm Building this 1/72 Apache from Academy in IAF colours. Has anyone seen what the real cockpit colours is? According to the instructions it's all black. But most clear pictures I've seen the seats looks kinda black and the tub Olive Drab.

Also the aircraft coulor itself is not FS Olive Drab. It seem's darker. I've looked and looked but can not find decent pictures of an Israeli Apache's cockpit.

I'll appreciate any help

Thx

Yes, the cockpit is the same as US Apaches; varying shades of flat and semi-gloss black.  The best way to represent it is with Testors Aircraft Interior Black overall, and picking out some pieces in flat black and a semi-gloss black.

The fuselage color on early Israeli Apaches was the same as US Apaches as well.  It is called US Army Helo Drab, FS 34031.  Testors has it in their Model Master range in both acrylic and enamel.  The enamel color is a little too grey, but, the acrylic color is right on.

I built an Italeri 1/72 AH-64A during this spring, and the instructions had the overall aircraft color as Desert Yellow Tamiya XF-59.  Would that also be considered an accurate color for an Israeli Apache?  I'm considering a rebuild of the model as my first one was involved in a cleaning mishap and has been condemned to bear the brunt of my modeling experiments.

I don't know about the Tamiva XF-59.  I don't use Tamiya paints, also, I am not sure they were ever overall sand.  I have only seen them in the Helo Drab and in a sand and brown camo.

Tamiya XF-59 (Desert Yellow) isn't even close to either of the two colours in the lower photo above. I believe the sand base is FS 33531 (as used on other IAF aircraft) Tamiya XF-57 Buff is close but a little dark. Testors ModelMaster 1706 "Sand", Gunze H313 "Yellow" and Humbrol 121 "Pale Stone" are better matches for FS 33531
