Completed Revell Huey UH-1C
Posted by rodc on Thursday, September 10, 2009 7:44 PM

Hi all,

My latest finished kit is the Revell Huey Hog. I know there are issues with how this variant was presented by Revell but I am not big into subject accuracy!  I just enjoy building them as good as my skill level permits and giving them some cool paint jobs
Big Smile [:D]!

This was not one of my more favourite builds having experienced some really bad fit problems on the fuselage and problems with keeping the windows glued in place.  I actually had to use Ambroid ProWeld to weld them in place after trying Elmers white glue and Testor's clear parts cement both of which would not hold the clear parts while I tied to mask as gently as I could Censored [censored]Censored [censored]Censored [censored].

I finished the chopper with Model Master olive drab with Testor's flat brown and beret green camouflage of my own design (I wanted to liven up the finish from the flat olive drab).  After painting, I sprayed a coat of the miracle elixir, Future, applied the decals and resprayed a second cost of Future to seal them.  I like the shiny look which is not as bright as what is shown in the photos.  I did not bother with any weathering or panel line highlighting.  I like the finish the way it is.

It came out OK I think......not bad for a model with a pound of Tamiya putty on it

I also just noticed that I lost the tail skid somewhere along the way......

Comments are always welcome and thanks for looking!

nice!  I dont know how I feel about the paint job,but it is all about what the builder likes! I cant knock you for it!

I am building the same kit...almost ready for primer.  I definitely had some fuselage fit issues, but no where near as much putty as you had mentioned

Looks like you got her together pretty well. Thumbs Up [tup] A little hard work and some Censored [censored] can really make those Revell/Monogram kits shine... believe me, I know! Wink [;)]

I kinda like the color scheme ya got there. It's a little bright but it really breaks up the drab. A flat coat would tone it down but you like the finish the way it is and as Justin said, that's all that matters. Thumbs Up [tup]

I also like all the spades. were those kit supplied decals?

I may actually re-shoot the photos.  I did them indoors with a straight flash on my camera so a lot of the "shininess" is actually flash reflection.  The actual finish is nowhere as shiny as what the photos show.

Yup, all 3 spade decals came with the kit.  If I had of built the grenade launcher, a small spade would have been applied on both sides of the launcher on the nose.  Since I opted to not use the launcher, I used the large spade.  I didn't want to throw the smaller spades in my spares box so I thought, why not add them to the rotors!

Hmmm, definitely different.  What-if schemes and aircraft are not my cup of tea, but whatever turns you on.  As you mentioned, the kit is all sorts of messed up on accuracy, including the markings.  Looks like you did well on the construction though.

One thing is for sure, she ain't drab!  Build em like ya like em.  You might actually consider a scheme like this some time if you do another one.

Ray nailed it on the head. - "Build em like ya like em."

I not a big stickler for accuracy unless I'm building something very specific... if it looks right then I'll run with it. It looks like a Huey to me. Thumbs Up [tup]

I've actually been thinking about building this kit... like to torture myself I guess. Wink [;)] It's nice to see that it can be put in it's place and come out looking good. Gives me something to look forward to.

I've not been able to model much since the arrival of my second daughter, but this is a kit that I DID complete! Copy and paste the link to my thread on this build from my signature at the bottom of my post. I did pretty much everything by the manual on this build. I dont care a whole lot about accuracy either...I just like to build them!
