Another Somalia Question
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, December 19, 2003 4:56 PM
Did the Blackhawks in Somalia have the pilot sheilds at that time? The sheild was between the pilot and his door. Did they have the doors on? All the pictures I see show the birds with no doors.

This is Two, we're movin'

The pictures in the book "Blackhawk Down" show the doors in place with side armor.

I think I answered this in a previous post. I was there for almost 5 months. All Nightstalker birds (60's and eggs) flew with doors off the entire time I was there. The MH-60's flew with pilot/co-pilot doors off and balistic shields (armor) in place. Aircrew discretion as to whether you slid it forward or not just prior to take off, but I think it was SOP. The rear crew doors on the MH-60's were always secured (locked) to the rear. M/AH-6's had doors off as well.
