I've ridden in both... more partial to the Blackhawk myself. A nice black MH-60.... Mischief [:-,] But there are nice 1/35 kits of both out there, mainly from Academy I think.

thanks for the info, also; which forces were deployed in 2000?  If I can get that info it would help in some of my research.  thanks again.

In the year 2000? Aside from the permanent stationed forces in Europe and Korea, you had contingents in the Balkans Bosnia/Kosovo as part of SFOR and KFOR, as well as (I am willing to bet Taped Shut [XX]) SOCOM elements operating in Columbia and other parts of the world that did not make the mainstream news.

I have partially built the 1/35 Academy Kiowa. The fit and detail of the kit is very good and is going to build into a very nice model. It is an older variant of the current D model. The upper forward transmission fairing and intakes and also the rear doors are of the older version aircraft. Overall though, a very nice kit. I now have five models in various stages of completion.

I recommend the OH-58D.  I'm kind of partial to that one as I flew it.   OK, ok I also have resin for it too.  LOL

Check out http://www.wernerswings.com/ for the Update conversion set and the MPLH gear.

Also don't forget to check out Fireball Modelworks (http://www.fireballmodels.info/) for the Spurs and Skulls decal sheet.

While I'm at it, you'll only need one book (actually there is only one book) the Squadron/Signal OH-58D Kiowa Warrior Walk Around, written by some hack.  No wait that hack is me.  Like I said I flew it and really like the helicopter so I'm kind of partial.

Following on what Floyd said, I would recommend the Blackhawk kits. They are very well engineered. You can get tons of resin goodies from a couple source, namely Cobra Company. Also Eduardo makes several PE sets for it. Book wise, there are a couple walk around from squadron and others. Although I like the Kiowa, I'm a true fan of the Hawks after serving in them. And yes Floyd, I have also flown in the Kiowa. But I prefer my Hawk.

Thanks for all the replies.  It gives me something to think about and possibly toss a coin.  Just have to give hints to the wife for xmas now.  We'll see what happens.

If you build the Academy Blackhawk,, look up a review on it here on FSM. It was very helpfull to me,, esp when building the cabin and seats. I have a post with pictures on this forum of it. The title is Blackhawk Main Rotor. All in all, not too difficult,, parts fit nicely. Have fun on whatever you decide! Big Smile [:D]

PS here's the link to the review http://www.finescale.com/fsm/default.aspx?c=a&id=197

You could build a Huey to go along with your Cobra.  Of course, some might say mine is not an impartial opinon!Whistling [:-^]
