Question about Vietnam USMC CH-46
Posted by bondoman on Monday, November 9, 2009 6:52 PM
According to Academy, the rotor tops are Olive Drab, while the fuselage is Marine Green. I have a lot of pictures, but of course none show the tops of the blades. Can this be correct? CH-46 A/D.

Olive drab is correct for the Vietnam era. The Marines went to olive drab rotor blades in 1956 and changed to black blades and hubs in 1985. I worked on Cobras from 1975-78 (HMA-169/HMA-369) and our a/c had olive drab blades, as did the UH-1E/Ns over at HML-267.

Thank you for taking a look at my ? If I may- the bottoms of the blades are black, or OD? And the yellow tips are top, or bottom, or both. Getting a photo of the top of blades is darn near impossible, and when you do, the kodachrome slide from 196when is all washed out. Thanks, again.

From the pics I've looked at it appears that the blades are OD on top and Flat Black on the bottom. The yellow warning stripes go all the way around.

OD on top, Black on bottom, Yellow tip on top and bottom.
