1/48 Blackhawks
Posted by RonaldHH on Monday, December 14, 2009 6:52 PM

I am interested in building a 1/48th scale Blackhawk. Undecided as to what type but favoring something that would be flying around Tucson, AZ. This will be the first helicopter in over 30 years and I have unpleasant memories of that last one.

I have found Blackhawk kits by four manufacturers, Academy, Italeri, Minicraft, and Revell. Which of these are using the same molds and which are different? If different which is preferred and why.

The Minicraft and Academy ones are the same mold and are the best H-60s in 1/48th.  The Italeri and Revell ones share the same mold with eachother as well.  They are a close second to the Minicraft/Academy ones.

.................Revell of Germany does, or at least did,  make a 1/48th  troop transport version of the H60 Blackhawk. Italeri has a Pave Hawk version, but it is based on the same tooling. Revell AG often markets re-boxed Italeri kits. The kits are highly detailed for 1/48th scale...................Minicraft has several versions of the H60 ranging from the troop transport to the Presidential helicopter or at least did. The one I bought was a bit soft on interior detail.
