Chickenhawk part 2
Posted by midnightprowler on Friday, December 25, 2009 7:31 AM

Thanks to a friend's generosity, I have finally finished a build that I have wanted to do for over 20 years.  This is revell's 1/32 Huey with markings from Fireball works.  I built her as the bird Robert Mason, author of "Chickenhawk"  flew during his tour of Viet Nam in 1965-1966.

I'm glad you were able to complete this project and you can never have too many Hueys.  The Fireball decals look great as well.

Love the bird,. Almost as much as I loved the book. I still have my copy from Jr. High  School (too many years ago to count). Great looking Huey.

Thanks guys.  Chickenhawk came from a conversation in the book between Mason and another pilot, one said something to the efect of "so what are we, checkens, or hawks?", to which the other replied "we are chickenhawks,", or something like that, I forget exactly.

If I ever get a chance to build a Revell 1/32 UH-1D I am going to spruce it up with some 1/35 scale pilots and the XM23 door guns from the 1/35 Panda UH-1N. Right now I have 2 1/48 UH-1D's one I will be scratch building the rest of the XM23 mount from the Italeri UH-1N and resin M60s from propaganda Kompany and Ii have a 3rd 1/48 scale UH-1D coming in that includes the Cobra Company XM23 set that I just picked up on Ebay for $39 minus shipping. I will definitely need to pick up the fireball decals so I can have more options.

You know that Chris has the XM23 set on the Cobra Company site for $10 right?  Of course if you are international, I know it can be more difficult to order from CC.

I do live in the states it is just that the XM23 kit was bundled with the Italeri UH-1D so I couldn't pass that one up. And as far as I know he doesn't have a 1/35 scale XM23. As for scratch building the Propaganda Kompany set come with new pintles for the XM23 and I want to try my hand at scratching ammo boxes and shell bags. besides the Propaganda Kompany set I ordered also comes with crew figures.
