The M2 .50cal is also used as well as the 7.62 Minigun.

I read that BAE are involved in a contract to supply a remote / turreted 7.62 minigun for fitment into the "hell hole" on special forces Ospreys?

Yeah I read that too. They're adding a gun turret due to the lack of defensive weapons.

Hawkeye, you know that is an Airmobile Multidirectional Flexible Small Arms Spent Cartridge Casing Eductor. It has an NSN, a Milspec, was sent out for bids, and requires a trained contractor to install and maintain it. In other words,  it's a dryer duct. Whistling

And don't forget that dryer duct cost approx $100,000 per unit for the US Military! Confused

Take note of the "dryer ducting" on the gun to channel the spent cases out the door and into the vacuum of the slip stream. Brass casing and helicopters don't mix well...FOD! We used to have to put collection bags on our weapons when I flew airborne fire team in UH-1F/N's.

You might check the new Tamiya Hummer in 1/48.  If you were building 1/72 (are there any kits of the Osprey in 72?) I'd say raid any of the Dragon Hummer kits as they tend to have several.

M240 being used here: "U.S. Marine Sgt. Danny L. Herrman, a flight line crew chief with VMM-263, test fires a M240 heavy machine gun on the back of a MV-22B Osprey while flying on a mission over Iraq"

Ramp Gun for MV-22
Posted by Medicman71 on Monday, January 18, 2010 8:54 PM

Hey all. I was wondering if anyone knew what kinda gun they use on the MV-22 Osprey. I saw a video with one at the ramp and wanted to add it the kit i'm just starting. If anyone knows what kind and where to get one it would be very helpful. I'll be posting WIP pics soon.

Thanks
