Got a pair of these.
One will be dressed in grey/green/black, and the other grey/grey.
I started by closing up all the fuse panels and assembling all the smaller bits.
The pit is lacking in detail, so I added a few things, all scratched.
Looks like they are off to a good start. The extras in the cockpit look really nice. Keep up the good work.

Thanks HA
Got them all painted up. All is brush painted with clear glue on the inst faces. Harnesses are Tamiya tape and left over PE buckles, the shoulder strap adjustment bucklues are aluminum and wire. The fire extinguishers are made from a rocket(AccuMinis TBF) and bits of sprue and aluminum. Just have the HUD to scratch and details on the canopy.
Got the fuse closed up.
Chopped up the stabs, to fill the hole in the tail and drilled holes to pin the stabs back in place.
Cobbled some bits of aluminum together along with some clear plastic for the HUDs.
Thats impresive man. cant wait to see more. makes me feel ashamed of how average my 72nd one is lol

great work so far!
I have one of these in my stash as well
I love the smell of plastic in the morning
Oh Fermis if you go to your local office supply store you can get a stack of 50 to 100 sheets of clear acetate used for overhead transparency projectors. I think they are around 5 bucks a pack and could yeild a near lifetime supply of clear plastic.

That would be a bit much!!!!! I get plenty from blister packs. I don't really use enough of the stuff to warrent that purchase. Good idea though.
Got a tiny update. As with almost every project, I tend to completely lose interest at about the 1/2 way point. Anyway, canopies are finally on and wired up as well as (foil)grab handles. One bird will be all closed up, the other will stay open to show all the work!!!
Been working on scratching the inner weapons pylons...what a PITA!!!!! Way too many angles, I may end up giving in to just adding a bit to the kit parts and call it good, but I'll keep plugging away at new ones. Hopefully they'll work out.
Holly crap....You wern' t kidding yesterday....Awesome work. Are you gong to have these at the show?
Cheers

Novi, Mi
Thanks buddy!
I don't think they'll be close to finished in time for the show. Maybe in time for the Kalamazoo show in October.......maybe!!!! Besides, I've got like a dozen going already.
Well, I got the pylons beat!!!!
They aint perfect, but they look a little better than what comes with the kit. I used bits of sheet styrene, sway braces from the scrap box, stretched sprue and bits cut from an old F-15 pylon.
A little bit of cleanup and a couple wires and they're good to go!!!
Here's a side by side with the kit part.
Added some detail to the tail, finished off the pylons and assembled all the bit, to get them ready for painting. Just need to mask off the canopies, then I'll start toosing some paint.
Got the first one painted!!!
Hours and hours of tedious masking and a couple not so great color choices. I ended up with 2 light colors that are hard to tell apart and 2 dark colors that are also hard to tell apart. Not real pleased with myself, but, I can't say that I hate it.
I should be starting the painting process on the other this evening. That one will still be grey/green/black.
HOLY $HIT FERMIS. You've done it again. Please don't bring this to the contest!!!!! Other people would like to win something.....You da man. I can't wait to see the other one.
HAHAHA!!! Thanks Rob. There aint no way either of em are going anywhere, for a long time!!!
Here's the other. Nice and simple!!!!
Got the decals, weathering, and all the do-dads done on this one. She just needs some rotors and weaponry and she'll be done.
They both turned out really nice. The digicam one is really wild looking. I like the old 3-tone Med Scheme as well. Great job on both.
Cool Cobras!
fernis,
Once again excellent job on your models. Are they best to do in pairs or just the way you like to build? I have hard enough time with one on the bench, thinking its a production / research multi-tasking idea.
Thanks guys!
I don't know why I chose to do them at the same time and I probably won't ever do that again!!!
wow, this has been really inspiring for my 72nd kit. can you post some shots of them side by side complete?
Will do S/m, It may be quite a while before the digibird gets done though. Once I find some decals for it, it'll go real quick. I'll have all the other do-dads done and ready for it.
I'm getting real close now to having this one done. Today, I did up the rocket pods and scratched some stretched sprue detail on the tail rotors. Couldn't find a real good ref pic of this, so I did the best I could with what I had. It beats the kit detail at least!!!
Alls I get left now is the main rotors, hopefully I can get em knocked out tomorrow. Then I can wonder, for a few days, what my next project will be!!!
WOW! OUTSTANDINGING DETAIL!
Thanks for sharing your builds!
Clear Left!
Mel
Thanks Mel and you're very welcome!!!!
Rotorheads are finally done, scratched in some detail using sheet styrene, brass rod, aluminum, and sprue.
side-by-side with kit detail.
Not sure what's up next, but it WILL have wings on it!!!
oh crap, ive lined my blades up wrong with the hub. craptastic. loking good fermis. ill have to fix mine tonight. but its all gluesd and everything
Scorpiomikey oh crap, ive lined my blades up wrong with the hub. craptastic. loking good fermis. ill have to fix mine tonight. but its all gluesd and everything
Heh!!! You're not the first to do that. Last year, I built Academy's H-58, everything went beatifully, I was actually proud of myself. Once I posted the final pics, I realized the blades were upside down(rotating backwards), it was too late
Well, this one is now sitting on the shelf.
I did find a mish-mash of decals in the scrap box for the other one, and got them done this evening. Crappy weather has set in and given me a few days off, so I should have that one done by Thursday, if not tomorrow!!!!
All is done.
wow, those are some amazing looking birds fermis. brilliant work.
Awsome Cobras!! They look incredible!!
