HH-65 (SA 365) Dolphin kits? 1/72.
Posted by STFD637 on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 8:40 AM

Hello all,

I am looking for some info on this kit. I have seen the Revell kit on line reviewed and everytime I see one the rescue hoist is missing. I saw a build up the Matchbox kit and it included one. My understanding is that these are the same kits pretty much. I would like to build it up into one of the USCG versions so the hook is a MUST!

Has anyone built either of these kits? I would appreciate some input before purchasing one. I am looking for the 1/72 scale kit. I would love to build the Trump 1/48 kit but 1/72 is what I have all my other Helos in.

Thanks for the help.

If my recollection is correct, the Revell (ex-Matchbox) kit dates back to the late 70's early 80's and at the time represented a civilian Dauphin II. I believe I started one way back then, when it was a new release kit, but lost interest and never completed it.

I would assume that Revell has simply repopped this kit from the original mouldsand not added or modified anything, hence the lack of a winch.

I've built the Matchbox kit and the later Revell Germany kit. They are both the same.  The kits are of the Civilian model and will need some changes.  Fewer it you do the new C models.  Somewhere on this site are both articles I posted for pictures.  Your looking at the tail section needs to be completely re made, the right rear window needs to be corrected. the left side needs the changes made behind the rear door.  For the A model, new engine cowlings FOD screens and tail pipes. Aviation Workshop made or maybe still makes a conversion kit for most of the changes ( not all ) and of course the decals.  Good luck. Hope to see your model here soon.

Thanks guys. I looked into the Aviation Workshop site....and no luck there. They do have a SH-60J conversion that looks interesting. I guess I may wait and keep a look out for the conversion kit on ebay. The kit looks Ok built up in most of he pics I have seen. Of course the interior is very sparse. Maybe someone will make a whole new mold in 1/72. I think the 1/48 Trump version might help with that. Kinda seems to be the trend, make a 1/48 scale, then if it takes off do a 1/72 for us small scale guys. Thanks again.
