Another great site is Werner's Wings run by an old Kiowa Warrior driver by the name of Floyd Werner.

What is the web adress for Fireball Modelworks? I am a big fan of helicopters, and I would like to start building them again, and I think that, other than going to the hobbyshop to get the kit itself, Fireball Modelworks may be the best place to start.

Fireball Modelworks has excellent items.  His decals and resin parts are highly recommended.  Along with Cobra Company and you have more accessories and update sets than you need to make any helo model great.

Very nice work.  Something must have happened during the uploading of your pics, I'm sure the rotors are not upturned.

looks good, just wondering why the blades are angled the way they are? seems the front one is very curved upwards.

Hi John,

Thanks for the kind words on my Huey.

Sorry to hear about your cracked cabin doors.  I didn't have any problems with mine luckily.  I laid them flat on my workbench (outside down) and sawed them off the pouring block with a razor saw.  Then a little work with a sanding stick to remove the remaining resin from the bottom finished it up.

Keep us in the loop with your Huey builds.  I’ve really enjoyed your H-34/S-58 builds thread.  You do amazing work!

Best,

-Derek

Hi Derek ;

I really like your FT Rucker Huey and nice job using the fireball products on her as well .

The paint finish is nice and smooth and she really looks great .

I have four 1/72 Huey's sitting under the bench that I have started using the fireball ASE update set ; I cut the nose of each fuselage half and made the necessary cuts around the engine housing , however I'm struggling to cut the cabin doors from the resin pour block ; I have cracked two cabin doors so far , so I was wondering how did you cut your doors from the block .

If my four Flat Iron Huey's can look half as good as your Rucker bird I will be happy .

Excellent Huey Derek...Toast

Kind regards

Completed 1/72 Ft. Rucker UH-1H

I finally completed another project.  This time it’s a 1/72 UH-1H Huey, finished as a Fort Rucker trainer.  I once again used Fireball Modelworks details and decals so a big thanks to Joseph.  If you haven’t used any of Fireball Modelworks stuff you should check them out sometime if you are a helo fan!

The basic kit I used was the Italeri 1/72 UH-1D.  It was built pretty much out of the box except for a few items.  The kit didn’t come with the armored pilot seats, so I used some .010” sheet styrene along with parts from the kits seat to make them.  I added masking tape for belts after they were painted and that was it for the interior since she was going to be all buttoned up anyway.  Then using Joseph’s excellent Huey update set, I used the heal hole cover and his corrected main cabin doors to replace the inaccurate kit supplied ones.  One of the last items added on the build were the photo etch cable cutters to the top and bottom of the Huey which look great.  Some stretched sprue braces completed the top cable cutter.  I didn’t use the Fireball nose piece with the APR-39 bumps as the bird I was modeling didn’t have them in place.

I did add the small scoops above the windshield as they aren’t supplied in the kit for some reason.  I used some old sparrow missile noses cut and filed down to the proper shape.  I used a few drops of green food coloring in Future to tint the small windows above the pilot’s seats green.

I used Model Master Olive drab lightened with a little light brown for the overall color.   Like my recent UH-34G Seabat, Joseph provided me with a custom set of decals that snuggled down very nicely over a Future clear coat.  A coat of Testors Dullcoate after the decals and she was done.

I really enjoyed this build and overall I’m pleased with the results.

-Derek
