Yesterday I happened upon a Revell 1/48 HH-53 kit still sealed for $20.. Of course I jumped on it. I don't really want to make it a Vietnam era Jolly Green.. I want to make a somewhat current MH-53 Pave Low. I have been googling and I know there is a resin conversion with bigger tanks, a different nose, and some various other bits. However, details are sketchy about who made it and where I can get it.
Can anyone point me towards this resin set? Also, I am going to be lazy and ask if any decals for a Pave Low exist or do I have to piece something together from my spare decal file?
Excuse me.. Is that an Uzi?

Awesome! Thank you
If one can find Revell-Germany's updated German G/GS camo version (kit 04446, released in 2002), it forms a better starting point (I know my local hobby shop still has one on the shelf-more than $20 though). It has a few updated parts, namely the newer composite main rotor blades. Too bad they did not refine the tail rotor. It also has quite a few electronic "bumps", new fuel tanks, and armour seats, but I haven't checked to see how much can be used for the Pave Low. Best to just use Cobra Company's replacements. I have enough of Cobra's conversions to make two Pave Lows, weapons sets and all; of course, they are on the "to do" pile! I am also looking for specific Pave Low decals, but have not been able to find any yet; there is the 1/72 set in Revell-Germanys re-release of the Pave Low to use as a guide, but will have to piece together for 1/48 version. Perhaps Cobra Company or maybe Fireball would consider making a set of these?
Nice to know about the Revell-Germany's updated "53". I have a couple of the old original ones and had started making a "Super Golly Green". I was hand making all the formers and some stringers for the aft section. I may have to drag it out and start back on it one of these days. I guess I should invest in some of Cobra Company's updates for it.
Clear Left!

Looks like Revell will be re-issuing this kit in the Vietnam markings towards the end of this year....

That explains why they are starting to pop up.. People in the know are dumping them before the new issue comes out.
I am not opposed to doing a little work.. I need an occasional challenge and anything that involves mating a completely new nose that is a big solid chunk of resin has challenge written all over it.
If I really want to give up all together on decals I can always build it as one of the helos involved in Operation Evening Light.. No markings, and paint it tan.. That would add an interesting head scratcher to my collection.
