Korean War Group Build poll
Posted by stikpusher on Sunday, May 30, 2010 7:38 PM

I am checking here for interest on a Korean War Group Build to coincide with the 60th Anniversary of the war's beginning June 25th. The GB would be running from June 25 2010 to July 27 2011. Any subject, Aircraft, Armor, Ships, and Figures from any of the participating combatant nations is welcome. If enough people want to partake to commemorate this event, we will make it happen.Yes

Hi Stikpusher ,

I would be interested in a Korean War GB ; Having a full year to complete the build would suit me , I joined three GB's for this current year and have not completed anything as yet !!!

I have Italeri's 1/72 scale HO4S-3 kit which has USMC HRS-2 1953 Korean markings...

My first attempt to build one of these birds didn't work out , I have five of these kits in my stash , so I'm keen to try again with another one .

Anyway I'm interested.

That is the kit I built in the last Korean war GB, OOB markings except for the red which I found in some photos on a USMC site, I liked the extra bit of color.

Aaron , your H04S-3 is superb Toast

I had three attampts at glueing the fuselage halves together on my H04S-3 build and just could not get things lined up neatly....

Really Frustrating !!!

Another option is the Mach 2 SikorskIdea S-51 H03S-1 Helicopter

I think the color scheme and markings may suite the Korean War era ???

Thanks

I'm surprised the kit is causing you trouble. I've had some minor fit issues related to the fuselage and tailboom, that require some sanding, but I can't think of anything that could be giving you problems based on some of the kits I've seen you take on.

The HO3S-1 is from the Korean war period, only being adopted a few years before, and retired a few years after. I don't know if that kit includes decals for a helicopter used in Korea though but it would make sense that it would.

I was trying to remember why I had issue's with the build in the begining ; I recall getting the two fuselage halves together without any real problems and the tail boom joined up okay . It was when I started to mask the side cockpit windows that the left side window came unglued and fell in , I had to cut the left side of the fuselage off to re-glue the window back in

The problem I'm now having is trying to get each front nose section flush but every time I have tried to glue the left side back on , it sits slightly forward of the right fuselage side and won't fit tight back against the tail boom .

I had previously done some interior painting on two more H04S-3's and their about ready to start glueing together ; three more in the stash along with two USAF versions and a Westland Whirland conversion set for one of the H04S-3 kits . I'll continue with my SeaHorse builds for the time being , I seem to be having a pretty good run with those , perhaps in between coats of paint and putty drying , I'll clean up the fuselage edges of the H04S and try again , I dont know why it wont fit tight back into the tail section so the two nose halves finish flush ???

I think I usually end up with the bottom front sides uneven, and have to sand them even, after gluing the two halves together. If you had that section lined up instead of the back it might explain why you have had tailboom issues and I didn't.

I've had one of those side windows come loose, talk about a pain. I ended up shaking it into place then kind of spot glued it with Future. I usually glue my windows with Future anyway so it worked out pretty well, but had me worried for a bit.

I never knew about using Future for glueing clear parts , It sounds like a really good idea . I wish I had tried shaking the window back in place like you did Aaron , That would of saved me a lot of grief ...

I've been using ''Selley's" PVA white glue when glueing my clear parts but I will sure try giving Future a go .

Thank's for the tip .
