Good luck with Revell Monogram.  More often than not when I've dealt with them in the past.  It's been like trying to squeeze water from a rock.  But, I've got two of these ordered from my local Hobbytown USA, and I want to get the Cobra Company updates for one to make a MH-53J Pave Low.  That should make for an interesting bird.

Just curious--did they include the extra sprue with armoured crew seats and updated main rotor blades?  Also, what type of markings were included?  It looks to be a reissue of the same basic kit from the early/mid 80s.  Sure would be nice to put in at least a few troop seats in the rear, along with some window/tail mounted weapons as per an actual rescue bird.  How hard would that really be for Revell to do??

I ordered three of the Revell HH-53 kits from Tower Hobbies and they arrived yesterday

Unfortunatly one of the front cockpit canopies was cracked in half ...

I sent copies of these two pic's along with a scan of the instruction sheet identifying the broken part and a request for a replacement canopy , off into the mail today .

Hopfully Revell/Monogram will send me another canopy ; I also noticed that you only get the one [later type] engine screen particle seperators , not the early style for a CH-53A model . I have one of the original 1/48 HH-53C with the early style intakes , it's been built , re-built many times over , she's currently waiting to be re-built again . I guess she will be a USMC CH-53A this time .

Well, No Pave Low for me. I can't get the Resin thanks to the USPS being a bunch of idiots. I guess I will be dumping my kits on the consignment pile at my LHS.

Excuse me.. Is that an Uzi?

The Pave Low that is in Dayton is also a Son Tay raider. She was "Apple One" and carried Bull Simon's command element on that raid.

The jeep included in the kit is pretty crummy; more of an M38 type instead of an M151 MUTT, which would be more appropriate.  Also, if planning on a Pave Low conversion, it would be best to use the reissued Revell Germany version since it has the proper main blades; wish they had improved on the tail rotor as well.  Wolf Pack decals makes a set of 1/48 decals for a 20th SOS Pave Low on its sheet 48-004 Chopper Galore--it is in the markings of the one that flew the last mission of the 20th SOS and that is now in the National Museum of the Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB.  Having just visited a few weeks ago, I noticed that it has a different type sensor mounted above the pylon-mounted fuel tank than the one included in the Cobra Company update set.  I have enough kits, weapons, updates and crew figures for two Pave Low conversions in 1/48--when I get brave enough!  Even went so far as to obtain squadron patches for all of the units that used the Pave Low!

I was considering painting one all tan with no markings for Operation Evening Light. I acquired two of the old versions of this kit with the jeep and 105 howitzer and I was considering going that route.. I just think I would get sick of explaining the story to people. I have the resin coming to make one a Pave Low, though. That should be an interesting challenge.

Agreed. I am pretty fond of the Son Tay Raider CH-53s, so that is my plan for one. And I have a Revell Germany CH--53G in my stash already, so that one will likely become a USMC CH-53D now.

Still sounding good, would love to have US Marines Stallion as well, upgraded with some AM stuff.

Thanks for the heads up

I believe the G/S variant had some different parts included such as the main rotor blades. This one looks to be a reissue of their original issue kit with updated decals.

Is this a reboxing of their CH-53 G/S? or are there differences? Not that I'm against having both anways.

In case you have not seen them yet, Revell has reissued it's 1/48 H-53 kit. This time in the the guise of a Vietnam era USAF HH-53C and late Cold War USN RH-53D. And you get a jeep and 105mm howtzer to boot... Too bad they did not include any Marine Corps marking options as well. Nice to see this old friend again.Wink
