monogram's old Rambo 1/24th Huey chopper
Posted by 6pkk on Saturday, March 5, 2011 11:19 PM

Hey everybody !  First off , it's been awhile since I've posted, but before a question...I am a model car nut...always have, always will, but I absolutely dig military models...mostly armor, love the weathering. I scored an old Monogram 1/24th scale Huey helicopter. I can't wait to build it but I know it's not accurate, I'll need plenty of photos and/or drawings to get it right. Would like to build it in the Vietnam time frame. I'm wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction to photos and detailing ideas...I want to do it right. Thanks in advance    6pkk

I would ref. Olivers build, to say it is detailed would be a DRASTIC understatment.

His build is staggering!

For info on Vietnam Hueys, check out this thread.  It will take a while to get through, but should answer all your questions.

Good luck on it.  It is a dog of a kit.  The interior is lacking details and it is way over-simplified.  Personally, I wouldn't waste my time on it, but if you just have to have a 1/24 Huey, its all there is.  I'll stick with the much better detailed 1/35 versions.

I also am a car/truck guy who scored a 1/24th Huey kit. I'm currently convering it to an Ontario air ambulance. It is a whole different way of building models for me. I'm not used to seems down the centre lines and having  ejector pin marks and attachment points on the visible side of parts. Any way it will be painted Omaha Orange with white lettering  and the things that go bang in the kit will be deleted

Thanks

You guys want UH-1B refs, I'd spring for THIS DVD.  It contains over 1.500 images, most of which were taken by me.  However, I'm not getting a dime if you buy one so this isn't about me making money.  It is just the most practical way to get all the short bodied Huey pics you'll ever need.  I'm also happy to answer any UH-1B questions you might have or provide additional refs. While I can't fly them, I have a pretty decent working knowledge of the UH-1B in US Army service.   Good luck and please post pics.
