Thanks to all for the comments.

John thanks for the decal tip, but it does seem that everything's sold out.

I'm looking forward to the second attempt on this bird.

Mike,

You are a brave, brave man, my friend.  The Aeroplast kit is a true dog in every sense of the word.  however, you pulled off a very nice build considering two shapeless masses of plastic look about as much like a UH-1N as the original kit parts.  You'll definitely like the Revell kit much better.  I can't wait to see the results.

Hi Mike ;

Excellent work on your UH-1N and also the AH-1W and that awesome kit bash CH-53E .

I thought about doing something similar in combining a CH-53D and a MH-53E to build a CH-53E but I chickened out because I though it would be too difficult .

However Sir , I think your effort is just amazing .

If your looking for some modern USMC markings in 1/72 scale , which I mostly build in then you are in luck .

Another FSM modeller recently put me onto this site...

http://www.millcreekconsultants.com/WolfPak_home.html

The have some awsome 1/72 decals and I picked up quite a few sheets of different U.S military aircraft and helicopters ranging from the Vietnam War to the current day including a nice sheet 72-035Cripes A Mighty Marines .

There's markings for a current UH-1N ,CH-46E , F/A-18D also a winter camouflage AV-8A Harrier ( I had to get that one ) .

Anyway the 1/72 Wolf Pack range of decals are quite extensive , over 7 pages of different sheets , I ended up buying  5 sheets and with 5 to 6 different aircraft on each sheet including a full operational history of each aircraft you wish to model , this is by far the most comprehensive decal sets I have ever seen !!!

There is also another source for Wolf Pack decals in the U.K , called Fantasy Printshop .

I picked up a couple more sheets from them as Mill Creek Consultants had sold out of some 1/72 sets I wanted .

Sorry for the long post but again I think your scratch building workmanship is "Top Notch"

Well done Toast

once again i am no expert on this aircraft type, but it looks to me you have pulled off another great build, with what you say is a poor kit.

Now i am woundering what your third build is. I don't know alot about the US Marines, there are only two other helo's i can think of that they use.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Here's the second model from my USMC helo project.

This one turned into a bigger challenge.

This is an Aeroplast kit I bought on sale and It didn't take long to realize why.  What a hopeless piece of junk!    But I thought, what they hey, I'll see what I can do.  The kit is some kind of Huey, but not really close to anything.

Like the Cobra, I was frustrated by the lack of decals and detail sets available.  The engines and other details pieces are a kit bash of the Italeri AH-1J Sea Cobra kit.

The kit had some parts for other versions of "pseudo-Huey" that with some mods, actually worked.  I rounded off what I think was a torpedo and using a kit part that looked like it belonged, I fashioned a representative of the IR chin mount.

The kit's nose pieces and doors were all molded as clear parts.  The instructions were worthless for showing which  nose pieces were correct.  All the parts were molded with a pebble-type finish.  The cable cutters are made from stock.

I tried using some foil to represent the nose access panels, but I'm not happy with the results.

The markings were again a mix of the Sea Cobra kit and my spares box.

I just bought a Revell Bell 412/ UH-1N kit, so I'm going to try this again.  While I have a better kit to start with, I'll still be stuck without any decals and scratch building the details.
