New camera... Need chopper ID.
Posted by minimortar on Friday, July 15, 2011 8:35 PM

First day out with it at a local airshow and getting familiar with it. I need the ID for the civilian chopper if someone could help me out with that. (I know that I do need a circular polorizer... it was a gray day for the most part but, both look awesome at 12"x18".)

TIA

Thanks,
Kevin Keefe

Nice looking Eurocopter AS350 Ecureuil (Squirrel), marketed in the US as the AStar.  It is very popular with news agencies and police departments.

The Blackhawk looks good too.

Minor quibble. I'd call it an AS355 (twin engined) rather than an AS350 (single engined). The bulged fairings are the giveaway.

Many thanks guys! I knew that it was European built but couldn't put my finger on the ID.

There was a time when I knew this kind of stuff.

Thanks,

Weird coincidence.......... one of these AS355s just flew over the plant a few minutes ago but painted in light blue and white.  I think these things are too small to be used in Flight For Life applications so don't know what it was up to.
