After much strugling and fowl talk with this Revell nightmare I have "re-boxed" it till I am very bored or insane one day in the distant future!

Nothing seems to fit and the quality is poor. There is so much filling and sanding needed that allot of the raised detail will be destroyed, and I have no idea how to replace it afterwardsSuper Angry

I have started om my 1/72 Italeri UH-1C and althought I know it is FAR from being acurate , the fit and quality sofar seems lightyears better.Hope I have better luck with this one.

PS. I will start a new thread with the 1/72 HOG.

I have managed to re-paint the rear backrest green like the seat. Installed the roof and extremely poor fitting windshield and shaped the bottom of the fure a bit better.

I must say of the 2 hellies I am building, I am not having allot of luch with either of them! The 1/72 Heller Alloette 3 has also got a very poor fitting front windshield .......

Maybe I must stick ti planes and leave the flingwings to you experts LOL!

That's very kind of you Ray, thanx

Problem is I am about 7000 miles to you south east in South AfricaSmile.

I will however cntinue and trt complete this revell hog as bet I can and just write it off as a learning curve, for the price I got it for I can't really complain.

I have a mate here in SA that rebuilds and flies UH1's for the forrist fire guys and I have a soft spot for them. The fact that you can hear them comming long before you see them I have found interesting. LOL!

Thanx for all the great info

PS. I still think a downed hog half submerged in a paddy could look nice, something different.

Theuns,

Not sure where you hail from, but if it's not too impractical, I'm happy to send you the few bits you'd need to build a nice UH-1B from the Uh-1C kit.  In fact, all you really have to have is new sync elevators as the UH-1C has wide ones and the UH-1B has narrow ones.  The wide tail fin is actually accurate for many B models which had Char;ie tail boom replacements.  The other big differences (right vs left fuel filler and nose mounted vs roof mounted pitot) are easily corrected.  Just PM me if you are interested.

The Italeri is kit #50 the UH1C

Pitty about the issues on that aswell, but thanx for the links.

I recon you are right about just completing the thing, maybe alittle diorama of the "downed" hog in a rice paddy or something..........anyone have pix of this?

Theuns,

No need to paint the floor black.  The black area indicates where cargo can be placed in the cabin.  However, some B models have plain gray floors.  I wouldn't bother repainting if I were you.  I say go ahead and finish the build.  If nothing else, it is great practice and, as I said, it looks like a Huey.

When you say you have the Italeri 1/72 HOG kit, do you mean the UH-1B or UH-1C?  The UH-1B kit is actually very accurate and can be built into a nice model OOB, the UH-1C kit has issues.  the main one being it has the wrong rotor.  If you want to know more, check HERE, HERE and HERE for a review of the UH-1B kit and a couple of my builds of the UH-1B OOB. Rats! This means some"interesting" re -painting in a very confined space, it also seems my floor needs to be a faded matt black rather than grey.

Here is the point where I need to figure out if I want to go to all the trouble to do it correct on a model that is so far off anywaySuper Angry

Maybe I will bench this for a while and do something else till I feel the mood fo it again.

Thanx for the info gents, much apreciated!

I also have the italeri 1/72 HOG kit, how is that one for buildability, acuracy?

Gino is correct that the Hog kit somewhat of a rough kit and an inaccurate one at that, but it does look like a huey when you are done.  Regarding the "curtains" on the rear bulkhead, Gino is correct that they would be the same color as the seats, however, this was mainly because they are part of the seat.  I see them called curtains all the time (and they certainly look like curtains in the kit), but as you can see below they are clearly attached to the seats.  Only very early Vietnam birds even had the seat back installed as it hindered access to panels on the rear bulkhead.  Here is a early UH-1B at the US Army Aviation Museum at Ft. Rucker showing the seat backs (the middle webbing is missing).  Frankly, I wish the kit manufacturers would leave them off, but almost every short bodied Huey kit has them molded to the rear bulkhead.  good luck!

Yup, it's a pretty bad kit.  I won't go into all the inaccuracies it has as well.  One pointer though, if you are doing the seats green, the seat back curtain on the rear wall should be green as well, not red.  On early UH-1Bs, the seats and the rear curtain were both red.  Very rarely did they have a mix of red and green seats and curtains (I have never seen one).

Revell UH1c Hog fit???
Posted by Theuns on Monday, July 25, 2011 1:05 PM

Hi all.

I am havin allot of hassles with my revell 1/48 UH1c HOG. The fit of this particular example is BAD!

The thickness of the bottom fuselarge halves are not the same, one is close to paper thin. There is also a gap om about 2-3mm when I tried to join the fuse bottom halves to lineup with the nose section.

I had to install some sheet as a backing .I will see how it looks after some sanding. The side windows were also a nightmare to fit correctly.

The interior detail is actually nice after allot of flash removal/cleaning.

Anyone else had this, or am I just messing it up???
