I guess you are toward the south end of the ramp then?  If you are working on a kit now, I have some sheet styrene that I could give you to try your hand at scratch building those 64 exhausts you were asking about.  I also developed a formula for a liquid glue that uses items that are likely in your flam locker.  I won't be leaving for another three weeks or so.  I am working maint tomorrow and off on Fri.  Next week's schedule is not up yet but I will be glad to pass on anything I have that you can use.  The references comment was just a joke about all of the Apaches on the ramp these days.

BTW, when I hear sir, I look over my shoulder and duck out of sight before I get into trouble.  Send a private message and I'll hook you up with what I can.

Hey Sir,

Leaving? Sorry it took me a bit to respond?  I'm up the ramp a little bit towards the medivacs in the Apache unit.  When are you leaving?  And no I dont have any pics of the Iraqi 17s.  I just see them flying around and thought they were pretty cool.  I just got here a few weeks ago.

I was hoping to get a little more done worth posting before we left but with my naturally slow build speed, I had to pack it up before I got to that point.  It looks like I won't see it for about 2 1/2 months so I will just let the thread simmer until then and resurrect it when I have something worth posting.

Most of the Iraqi buildings are no longer in use.  A few have been continually improved and are being used for headquarters buildings etc.  I believe that some of the contractors are using a few as well.  Most of the facilities in use now are classic Army cheap.  Our hangars are a prime example, they needed to be re-skinned two years ago.

Taji, what a place. I was there in 2004 when the Army was just moving in and cleaing up all the junk. I loved the rows and rows of Iraqi armor, artillery, etc. lined up by the east gate. We lived in and did a lot of work to buildings 46 to 55 over by  the south gate.

First saw them at Taji, I have pics of 414.  Was down south for a while and saw some there and now back at Taji.  I'll send a PM so we can compare notes.

Where are you seeing these Hips.  I'm at Taji and they are here too.  An interesting aircraft for sure.  They are also training in brand new Bell 407s.

Iraqi Mi-171 project

This is far from a WIP thread.  This is my deployment project that I have been working since the beginning of March.  After seeing the Iraqi Hips, I decided that this would be a good time to get out of my comfort zone and do my first, real scratch building project.  I began with the Hobby Boss Hip and commenced to cutting.  It has been a challenge and a bit frustrating, but it has been fun so far.  Here is my progress.

In the last picture, you can see all of the pieces that I have had to modify so far.  They are ALL still a work in progress as one cures, I work on another.  Much of the finished product will rely on creative gizmology to help it look the part.  Once I come up with something to represent troop seats, I think that I will call it good.
