More Bell H-13 help?
Posted by stikpusher on Monday, February 20, 2012 6:38 PM

I just purchased Revell's 1/35 H-13 kit and will be building it soon. I checked my usual websites (ARC, Cybermodeler, Hyperscale, Prime Portal, Scale Rotors) and found that there is very little out there online in the way of reference photos and walkarounds of this whirlybird. Web searches have not turned up much either. Can anyone point me to some links in the right direction?

My favorite one (for the Australian Army Museum's Bell 47G) is here:

Hope it helps.

Got my instrument ticket flying one of those (40 years ago). I'll be glad to answer any questions I can.

Loachman, those links would not work for me.Sad

Gene, I am planning on building the kit as a Korean War era Sioux. My main questions are regarding colors. Obviously OD overall on the exterior. My questions are about the cockpit interior colors. Would it be OD, Interior Green, or Dark Gull Gray? I presume the engine block should be bare steel weathered appropriately.

Just a bit before my timeSmile The ones I flew were trainers so the colors were a bit different. We also had them loaded (overloaded) with radios for IFR. Anyway, ours had the entire pedestal for the instrument panel painted black and the floor (what little there was) grey. yes the engine was natural metal color just as you thought. Here's the only picture I've found so far of the trainer version:

I am smack in the middle of the Revel H-13 build.  Except I am modeling mine after a museum display.

Check it out /forums/p/143374/1520317.aspx#1520317

I am a fan of your builds and am looking forward to this one.  If hope you do a WIP.

Nice ride Gene!Yes Well from a bit of research, it appears that the Revell variant may have been too late for Korean War service. I will adjust accordingly if that is the case. But if I go to an early Vietnam Scout, the interrior will be gray like in your photo there. Thanks for the help.

Echo, I started my Sioux tonite. I will have a look at your build thread here. Thank you for the kind words about my builds. I will defintely be posting WIP shots on the Monogram Mafia II GB starting tomorrow.

Thank you everyone for the help here so far! Very much appreciated.Toast

Your welcome Stik. I'm also a fan of your builds. I've already learned a lot since getting back into modeling recently and love watching guys like you build! Thanks for letting us tag along!

Embarrassed Aw shucks.... Thanx for the compliment Gene.

Loachman, that link worked. Yes Thank you!

The fit on this sucker is a bit fiddly in some areas, but it is  going together smoothly so far. The bird is definitely growing on me. Our local PD used to fly Bell 47s when I was a kid. So when I was a young hooligan they would occaisionaly show up when my freinds and I would be a bit too rambunctious. That's about as close as I have ever been to this particular type of chopper.

Yes I had seen the final product but not all the close up stuff. Nice! I am about ready to start slinging paint on mine starting this week.

I am nearing completion on my H-13 and now have a question that I could not find an answer to on any of those online links here. What color should the DF loop on top of the instrument panel be? None of the walkaround aircraft seem to have one installed.

Here is the kit part as it looks now...

I left it in Interior Green for now, but that does no look right. Aluminum perhaps?

Stik, the static display at our local museum has the  Loop painted OD green (and is way way thinner, making the kit's way off scale).  Also, the entire center console is OD green.  I don't think it helps much but there it is....  for what it's worth.

Thanks Echo. I can easily repaint the console OD. No worries there.
