Plasticjunkie, did you find an instruction sheet for the Gallery Marine dash 34 that shows the gun mounts?  I have exactly the same situation you do:  a rescue bird kit that wants to be a Jarhead bird.

Found it. Go to link to print

All the Gallery H34s have the same parts But different decals. I have the USAF Rescue one but want to make it as an early Nam Marine helo. Even a Ma Deuce is included for door gunner positio.

Nothing like reopening a 4-year old thread!  I got a smokin' deal on the Gallery kit of the -34-J rescue chopper, but I want to build it up as a Marine UH-34 medivac ship.  My friend provided me with some photos of the one he served on, which is somewhat different, especially in the cabin layout and armament from the -34-J.

The kit has the parts I need (I think!) but since they aren't needed on the dash-J, there is no instruction on how to assemble them.  Do any of y'all have the instructions for the 64101 kit that I might get a copy of?  My email is warodgers48@msn.com .

I'm pretty jazzed about building the kit; it's at least an evolutionary order improved from the old Revell/Monogram kit, except for the painting instructions, which are abysmal.

Thanks!

Yes, that would be quite a display build.

Speaking of motors, and I really don't mean to hijack the thread because this would certainly apply to the Gallery Model- I'm seriously considering modeling one of my helicopters with the engine clamshells open. Or maybe even removable/ operable. With the swingable tail on the Gallery kit, this could be a pretty outstanding model.

There are a good number of photos available of the engine. Most of it is a big cooling shroud in any case.

Oh yeah... buy the re issued Mercury/Gemini capsules kit and then this helo... the lift cable can be made to support the helo from the capsule in the water and if someone is really ambitious they can motorize the rotors...

The one that tried to save the capsule was 148755, side number 32, "Hunt Club 1". I have a picture of the one saving Grissom, side number 30, but can't read the BuNo.

EDIT: 148964

Maybe the ad is screwed up and the model is the 8755. Or maybe the model is goofy too. Can't tell from the art in the ad. Easy enough fix, I would think. Make a great dio axle deep in the water.

Revell's is up on their website...

Anybody know what is special about "Hunt Club 1"? Is that the 34 that tried to get "Liberty Bell 7"?

I am just happy that after so long with no 34 on in 1/48 on the market, we are suddenly getting two! And at each end of the spectrum to boot! This is good news on such a historically prominent chopper. Now if we can get some new kits of the AH-1G, UH-1B, UH-1C, H-21 and HH-3 in 1/48, I will be happy camper.

I've developed a sudden deep interest in the Chocktaw.

I thought that the H-34 was the Sea Horse...

The H-34 was known by a different name for each branch of service:

US Army - CH-34 Chocktaw

US Navy - SH-34 Seabat

USMC - UH-34 Seahorse

Gino P. Quintiliani - Field Artillery - The KING of BATTLE!!!

Oh I am not denying that it looks good. My undestanding is that it is related to the new Italeri kit from what I have read. But at over $50 it will be out of my price range. But the $20 Revell kit I can afford.

THAT I can relate to. I've developed a sudden deep interest in the Chocktaw.

There's a very well done scene in the movie "The Right Stuff", in which Grissom is saved.

IIRC it's a Sea Horse, or meant to be one, and it's all filmed with spray and engine roar.
