Mel, I take it that you are a former 174th member? Just to let you know I am presently working on VOL 2 of the Helicopter Art book due out in Spring 2014. I'm on the hunt for exceptional nose art photographs. Also, compiling a list of VN War Army helicopters now in museums or in outdoor displays for a future book. So far have documented 700 UH-1, AH-1 and OH-6 aircraft. I've added the three you included in your post.

There are two 174th AHC UH-1C/M Shark gunships restored at Museums and one with a private collector. Pima County Air Museum has restored Shark "430" on display and the Wisconsin State Veterans Museum has Shark "157" on display with correct armament hanging in the Museum. Jeff Biles has Shark "089" almost restored in Pennsylvania.

Clear Left!

Mel

Good looking book on a very interesting subject! Congrats on the 3rd print!

I for sure hope you’ll be able to release the other subjects as well.

I’ve always had an interest in base names and where they originate from (there were some very original ones in VN!)

Keep this up please

Mark

PeeGee, you are right on target about the abundance of VN Era copters on display around the USA. Even more is your comment about the lack of nose art applied to these aircraft. Let me look into that, maybe something can be done about this omission. Good input on your part.

Ruck up! I enjoyed my time in the air as a grateful, armed passenger while with the 23rd Infantry AMERICAL and the 101st Airborne Div. in 1971-'72.

"Baby Huey take me home!"

There are a quite a few static SLICK  displays scattered about the country;  many need pertinent artwork.Hope someone will document them all. Ft. Rucker is a good place to start ...

Now that we have books covering VN War Helicopter Nose Art, Gun Truck Art, and Zippo Lighter Art, the final three subjects yet to be explored are Short-Timer Calendar Art, Army Helicopter Unit/Platoon Markings and Flight Helmet Art. Are there other subjects that should be explored as well? Time is always an huge element to be considered when researching VN War subjects. The veterans population from the VN conflict is entering a critical phase regarding projected lifespan, and would be wise for VN War researchers to make this fact paramount in their research timeline. In other words......get cracking now before we are all gone.

I will be in Washington DC next June at the VHCMA reunion signing both helicopter books for those in attendance. My old employer, the Nat'l Air & Space Museum, will be presented, in person, a personally signed one also. I'm looking forward to that especially.
