Zvesda/Italeri/Revell Kamov Ka-29 Helix WIP with pics
Posted by Borg R3-MC0 on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 2:12 AM

Hi guys,

I am currently building my first helicopter since I started "serious modelling". Primary reason to do so is that my two year old son loves helicopters. Everytime one flies over our house he starts to shout ant point at it. When I show him my models he is always looking for helicopters but there are none there. So, it was time to build one.
When looking trough my stash I found several helicopter models. The one I choose is the Italeri Kamov Ka-29. This is a reboxing of the Zvesda kit. It has also been reboxed by Revell, which has better decals and instructions. In fact I am using the Revell instructions because they are much more clear on how to build the complex rotor assembly.

Enough text, time for pics:

This kit has a lot of flash, it is one of Zvesda earlier kits. I did a lot of cleaning up and painting on the sprue.

Hey Borg, funny you started this thread....as I was looking at the pics of your stash on the "Show us you stash" thread, one (of many) things that caught my attention was the very cool collection of copters you had.  I'll be watching this one!  And great to see you are fostering a love for aircraft with your son.  Look forward to this build!

Thanks Eagle90!

Here is some more progres:

The interior, plain grey, I addes very little to it, only tamiya tape seatbelts.

And a test fit, this thing is going to need some putty!

The current state:

I made the rotor. The Italeri instruction is quite confusing so I used the Revell instruction that I found online (thansk Revell!)
It still needs some touch ups and a wash to "make the detail pop".

And I have masked the windows: Jammydog microtape and Microscale Liquid Masking:

Which goed on this:

Making it into this (the astute observer wil note the lack of masking on the side windows, this came of during assembly)
