I don't plan on getting rid of my Dragon AH-6J Little Bird at this time.

The Hobbycraft kit I have is the 1/24 scale Hughes 500MD TOW Helicopter. It's made by the Idea Plastic Model Company (that's what the sprues say). Not much detail; just some raised lines for the doors and hinges. The cockpit is rather sparse with civilian seating and a pair of 2-shot TOW missile pods for each side and a sighting unit for the nose basically making it look cosmetically like a warbird.

On the plus side, not much there to sand off if you plan on engraving detail! I'd say the entire interior would need scratchbuilding.

Thanks Rob, no need to bother though I managed to find a Revell 1/32 OH-6 Cayuse kit on ebay and I bought that.

I think I have that Hobbycraft OH-6 kit. I'll dig it out and see. I've got the Dragon kit as well, it is 1/35 scale.

OH-6A Loach/Cayuse or MH-6 Littlebird - what kit options do I have?

Hey there

I've really been wanting for a while now to get a Loach/Cayuse or Littlebird, alongside the Bell 47 (HTL-4 USCG), S-61R Jolly Green and UH-1C I've currently got in progress and also a UH-60 that I have planned, and now also a SH-3H Sea King (Fujimi kit if it ever arrives, I got fed up with waiting for it to use as a details donor for the Jolly Green and bought a Revell Sea King instead).

But I'm not sure what OH-6/MH-6 kits are out there and I'm not entirely sure of what scale I want it in.

Basically the fuselage has to meet the following size requirements due to some parts I'm fitting inside -

  • Cabin height (bottom of cabin to top of cabin, not the engine/rotor housing) - 35mm (1.37 inches)
  • Cabin width - 45mm (1.77 inches)
  • Length (not quite as important as the two above) - 254mm (10 inches)

These are just rough measurements based on a UH-1D in 1/48 scale that I know the parts will fit in but anything smaller is a no-go.

I've googled for dimension pics and I've drawn a blank.

I think I'm looking for a 1/24th or 1/32nd scale kit for this bird but I'm not sure.

Any help on finding dimensions of the real thing, dimensions of various scales of kits for the OH-6/MH-6, and advice on which kits to look at buying would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

EDIT - nevermind, I've looked around a bit more and it seems there's only 1 1/24 scale OH-6A/MH-6 kit around and that's by Hobbycraft but is quite hard to find (i.e. I can't find one for sale), and there's only an old almost as impossible to get (especially at a reasonable price) Revell OH-6A for 1/32 scale, but I think 1/32 might just be too much of a tight squeeze.  Even the Dragon Little Bird seems to be sold out everywhere, but that's too small anyway.
