Hey there
When I ordered my air compressor the other day I also ordered the paints for the S.E.A Camo to do my Revell 1/72 HH-3E, and the paints arrived today...
...I chose to go with the Vallejo Model Air range because from what I've read they're pre-thinned and ready to airbrush, so save me the hassle of thinning.
The paints I bought are great (as is the air compressor and the free dual action gravity feed airbrush that came with it) - I tested them this afternoon to see what they look like (and how the airbrush works) - I sprayed them on one side of the white jiffy bag they came packaged in.
However, the colours I've chosen don't seem to match what I see in photos of real HH-3E (for example the one's here - http://igor113.livejournal.com/191567.html) or of other people's models (for example here - http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234933153-jolly-green-giant/).
The colour I bought for FS30219 seems too dark and a little on the orangey side, the grey seems too dark, i.e. not white enough, and the 2 greens I bought seemed indistinguishable from each other, although I have to admit I didn't use a lot of the two greens and they were a little watery as I didn't really wait for the gravity feed pot to dry after rinsing out the tan colour, so I may have to test those two again.
These are the colours I've bought, after spending some time using this comparison chart - http://www.paint4models.com/paintchart/paintconversionchart20100101d.htm#
Vallejo Model Air 134 for FS 30219 (Tan)
Vallejo Model Air 016 for FS 34079 (US Dark Green)
Vallejo Model Air 092 for FS 34102 (Medium Olive)
Vellejo Model Air 121 for FS 36622 (USAF Light Grey)
I've read elsewhere (on a thread on The Miniatures Page website) that FS 30219 should in fact be Vallejo Model Air 26 (US Flat Brown) and that FS 36622 should in fact be Vallejo Model Air 50 (Light Grey).
I've bought those two colours also, just waiting on delivery.
However I'm not confident they're even the right colours looking at the shades displayed on the website I bought them from.
Would anyone here happen to know the correct Vallejo Model Air colours (if there are any) for the S.E.A Camo scheme so it looks somewhat like the photos of the real HH-3E in the link above (or the model in the other link, or even the pic of the Phantom F4 at the top of this websites pages)?
TIA
