New to Plastic Building a Huey
Posted by iflyitall on Saturday, April 26, 2014 4:46 PM

Hey guys, it has been so long since I have build a plastic model, that I consider myself new. I do build paper models quite frequently but my search for a good paper UH1 didn't pan out. I have ordered the Italeri UH-1D Iroquois Model Kit from amazon. I am planning on getting to work with it right away. Should I get an airbrush? I do not want to spend a bunch of money on a good one right away, as I do not know how I will take to plastic, so I was thinking of just using brushes or buying a beginner cheap airbrush. Any recommendations for that would be awesome. Also for my next build I am thinking of doing the Bell H-13. Any recommendations on a good kit for this? The reveal one seems to be good.

Welcome to the dark side!  The MRC 1/35 OH-13 is a decent option as well.  Assuming you are just planning to build the Huey as a OD or CARC colored bird, I would just use rattle cans for the first build.  My experience with cheap airbrushes is they are..well..cheap.  If you "take to plastic" get a decent airbrush and a compressor (probably at least a $250 for both).  Buying cheap airbrushes can be more frustrating than rewarding (ask me how I know).  In any event.  good luck with the build and post some pics as you go.

Thanks Ray. I am looking forward to getting started on the Huey and will try to post my progress on here. As luck would have it, my father-in-law has a nice pashe airbrush and compressor that he has never used. So I will commandeer that sucker and start paining away!
