The current ambient(aaan it be at) temperature is 70 degrees and fog! Almost can't see the water at 85 ft AWL. Had to turn on the the aggravating Fog Horn. Last week I started making the insides fo the pilots doors on the MRC UH-1C. Hope to figure out how to make them "masters" to cast some resin copies. This would be of just the inside skin details not the whole door. Plan on making the prominate windshield wiper motor assy and covers too. Oh, my wife wants me to schedule vacation for July. It seems our daughter will be in Durham N.C. for 6 weeks this summer and wants to go visit her. I guess I'll have to make the trip up to DC to the Wall since we will be so close.

Hahahaha.... I don't remember if I ever knew the MOS number for a Medic, and if I did, I probably forgot, but one of them sure would have come in handy a few times when the *blade* slipped, isn't that right? [:0]

I hadn't forgot the times when I jolted back in my seat, blood streaming down my hand, and all that was on my mind was: "I'm going to have to wait until my finger heals now, before I can continue working on this!!!" Thus, the "New Skin", which will have you back building in just a few minutes.... (I then must be careful in my haste to continue whatever it is that I'm cutting, not to re-open the first cut... which has historically encouraged extremely erratic, un-modeler like behavior!!!!)

What was the MOS for a Medic? Some of my best "scars" are from a razor blade scratchbuidling! How could I have forgotten that!

Hi Liam,

Mel & Troy have indicated the three main ingredients of scratch building; Good Reference Material a full Spares Box, and Imagination. If you neglect either of the above points, the job WILL be extremely frustrating!

After researching aftermarket accessories, get a pack of Sheet Styrene, some Surgical Scalpel's, micro drill bits, micro scissors, a tube of Filler Putty, Super Glue..... also, don't forget to have On Hand, a tube of "New Skin", a box of "Band-Aid's", and some kind of good Antiseptic. (just look at the scars on the fingers & thumbs of anyone who's done very much scratch building, for justification for the last three items)

In your head, SEE what you want it to look like and don't stop until that image has been achieved. Most importantly, HAVE FUN and MAKE PICTURES!

I have found that some AUTO instrumentation can help?

At better Hobby Shops they have decals for guages and dials and photo etch bezzles.

Look through your junk box or boxes, you will find all kinds cool stuff?

When I was building my 1/35 Super frelon I was faced with the same problem NO detail at all....just old decals that were all yelllow and icky.
SO:
I stole the detailed surfaces from an extra 1/35 UH1-C from MRC....did some thinning, chopping, custom cutting and placed the new parts in the best fashion I could, turned out pretty cool!

First thing you need is good reference in the form of pictures or drawings. Then it's a matter of your skills and imagination to scratchbuild what you need.
