I see Revell of Germany has reissued the old Monogram kit with my 174th AHC Unit's Shark gunship markings ignoring the historical fact we never had Bravo model Huey's, only Charlie and Mike models with Mini-guns, 40 mm, and rocket pods. Way too much time and money to retool and include the 540 rotor system and cambered wider chord vertical fin. However Shark's teeth sells models even on a dump truck! We didn't get to Vietnam until April of 1966. In a letter dated June 14, 1966 Maj. *** Overhamm requested permission from B/Gen Robert L. Scott of the Flying Tigers to use the famed AVG Sharks Teeth on our UH-1C's and it was granted on June 28th. We were the only Army Aviation Unit "AVG" approved to sport the infamous Sharks Teeth in Vietnam despite many Cobra's sporting "dentures"!

I find it interesting they needed or wanted to ask permission from the Flying Tigers to use the shark's mouth. From what I understand the AVG got the idea from the Germans ( www.warbirdforum.com/erikrip.htm ). I wonder if the AVG asked the Germans for permission? I've seen pictures of shark's mouth schemes on aircraft as early as WW I.
It was a gesture of courtesy and honor which the AVG Assn. was appreciative of. A thorough lack of both in today's society! I believe in recent years they gave their blessings to an AH-64 Unit in Iraq or Afghanistan to use the Sharks Teeth on their birds.
Kinda funny how different the services are. One of the dets in my Navy helo squadron several years back painted teeth on one of their birds, it did NOT go over well.

That is a decent model and was a pleasure to build. I did one some months back and went together very well.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
