Need some help with my 1st chopper
Posted by balta1 on Sunday, March 7, 2004 9:48 AM
I am starting to gather info for my 1st helo build, fujimi 1/72 CH-46E. I noticed that some parts needed such as the floatation things on the sides will have to be scratchbuild unless someone knows where it may be available from another kit. The kit is also missing the laser detector box I think it is or something, right above the exhaust port. What's the name of this and is there a kit which has it? If no other kit has it, does someone have detailed info to scratchbuld one. You can take a look here to see what I'm talking about.
TIA

I'm not sure if any aftermarket parts are available for the Fujimi CH-46E. I can tell you that the laser detector box is an infared jammer which overwhelms the seeker heads on heat seeking missiles. I'm not sure if you know, but Academy is supposed to be releasing a 1/48th scale CH-46E that has gotten good reviews. The kit includes flotation bags and the IR Jammers. In my opinion, bigger is better... by the way, where's Panda's CH-47? I'm starting to lose my patience.

Trust me I know about the academy sea knight as I have 2 on preorder. I still like to model big aircraft in 1/72 due to space issues when displaying. I'm sure many people feel the same way. That CH-47 will be a sight to look at when and if it's released. Thanks for the input.

No problem. I hear ya on the space concerns, my room is overflowing with models and it's getting tough to find a place to sit. Laugh [(-D] I built Fujimi's 1/72 CH-46D a few months ago and wasn't really impressed with it. If I really cared, I would have scratchbuilt a lot of detail into it, like .30 cal machine guns and a new interior. But being an Army brat, I just skimped on the idea of going all out on a Marine machine.Wink [;)]
