1/48 Hasagawa AH-64D Longbow (WIP)
Posted by M. Brindos on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 11:30 PM

I thought I'd share a bit more about what I've got going on so far with my AH-64D Longbow since there seemed to be some interest in seeing more of it. So why not?

I've added the cables to the optical targeting sights. (Somebody let me know what the correct terminology for these is)

Then I added a couple of pouches as I've seen in some of the reference pictures. They need a bit more definition as they look a bit crappy and bland as of yet. I'll be fixing that.

And then I was trying to make a Hula Doll, but the sprue I was melting wasn't forming the shapes I wanted to use. I came up with a plan "B";  A "gift from home" lucky charm I'm going to put on top of the IP. I'm going to make a second attempt at making Hula Doll too. I know those are not actually allowed on the real Helo, but I'm going for it anyways. Who knows, I may even take a crack at scratch building an M4 Carbine that I've seen resting in the pilots doorway in one reference pics.

This build has been a pleasure so far. Only the pilot's IP cover had been any trouble for me. I decided to liberate it from the fuselage halves and make it all one piece before installing it. That makes the filling and sanding a lot easier to do with out worrying about dust and debris getting onto the finished pit parts.

I've also started working on the fuselage halves, getting them prepared for next step of getting the halves glued together, but no pics of that yet. So stay tuned, I'll have more by next weekend I think.  :)

Thanks for looking in! Happy modelling gentlemen.  :)

This thing was a pure joy to build and paint. :D

The nice thing about Teddy Bears is that they come in all shapes and sizes, so I can technically call it perfect 1/48 scale lol! :D:D:D:D:D

Happy modelling Gents!

That's awesome!  I really hope you can pull off the hula girl.  If scratching becomes too much of a pain, I'm sure you could find 1/48 M-4s somewhere (CMK mabe?).

Your cockpit looks great.  Are you planning on leaving the doors open or closed?

Open! Oh heck yeah.

Well if someone doesn't end up mailing me a spare I'm going to scratch build that M4.

Thanks for the comment Groot!  :D you've made my day!

Just small update.

Just a few minor things sorted out. The pouches, Velcro patches on the sleeves, the IP hood. Not much today.

This is looking sharp, and your figures good really good.  I hope you keep posting wip updates.  IMO you can't have too many helicopter wip threads.                            knox

Thank you knox.  :)

I've been making slow progress with this build so far. I just keep getting lost in the cockpit lol. So as I was trying to mount the gunner's sight I knocked off his mic and never noticed. No worries though as I've already replaced it. A little paint and it should be good as new.

The figs are specifically painted with high contrast for scale reduction. If I take the photo slightly out of focus they appear perfectly shaded.   Actually all you have to do is look at it from any distance and they look great. These macro pics are harsh on scale effects lol.

I will be posting more WiP pics when I make more progress.  :)
