1/32 UH1D cabin seats

The one I have opened (out of 2) is pretty clean from what I have poked around in it so far. A little flash and seams but nothing outragous.

I hope you have more luck with your kit, mine was a mess of burs and die slag.  come on Revelle update your Dies.

Floor, roof, quilting, sides light gull grey.

Starting work on the bird, and have a question on interior paint.  Instructions call for the floor to be flat black and most of the rest of the sides, roof, quilted panels light grey.  I've seen where the later birds went OD on the interior and was wondering the proper color callout for Ancient Serpent 6 in that time frame of '65-66.

The "proper" wording, from a past Chairman of the Medal Of Honor Society, is "recipient" of the Medal Of Honor.  

 

Lee-  Thank You, "awarded" is better wording than "earned", as virtually every recipient would never think they did anything worthy of that honor, they were just doing what needed to be done in the moment.

Goldhammer.....I understand your meaning.  Yes, you're right, the Medal of Honor isn't "won"....more accurately, it is "awarded" for valor in action against an enemy force, and "presented", normally by the President, if it is not awarded posthumously.

No issue, a bad choice of wording on my part.  Being active duty and a combat vet, I know all about earning medals as opposed to winning or being given them.  Correction made.

I would like to make (IMO) a correction in grammer in that any medal, especially the MOH is not "won", but rather "earned" by some measure of sacrifice, and awarded on that basis. And earned is not a fitting word either. In Maj. Crandall's case it is too bad it took til 2007 to get there.(according to the information in the box). This is not meant as any kind of slam for the use of "won" or against your information in any way. It is just a common way of phrasing it, but is one of my little quirks and nits to pick at. You have a wealth of knowlege and are more than willing to share such with all here to build better, more accurate pieces of history. Thank you for all you do here.

Or "A walking encyclopedia of useless knowledge," as some put it.  Pretty bad when I can remember all this minutia about helos, armored vehicles, and history but forget someones name five minutes after talking to them.   

Gino, you sir are a walking encyclopedia for all things helo!  I am full of awe and inspiration at the information you are able to provide as well as the quality and accuracy you show in your builds.

You could probaly use the CMK seats out of their Huey Cargo Bay set on it.  They are 1/35 but would be close enough.

On a side not, Crandall's Ancient Serpent 6 as it was at Battle of the Ia Drang Valley (LZ X-ray, We Were Soldiers), where he earned the Medal of Honor, did not have the M23 doorguns.  They had not been fielded yet.  The doorgunners held standard M60As with buttstocks on them and fired out the sides from the side seats.  It was also a UH-1D, not an H as the instructions have you build it.  For a D model, leave off the roof pitot and towel bar antenna near the rotor base.  Add a pitot on the nose and the two nose-mounted FM homing antennas as in the below pic.  His also had the long-line antenna zig-zagging along the left side of the tailboom as well.  He didn't have the armored seats either and the seat fabric (pilots and rear troop seats) was the early red hi-vis pattern.   Lastly, note the position of the 1 CAV patches on the tail.  The Revell instructions have them in the wrong place.
