1/48 MH-60 for a Gothic Serpent build?
Posted by Raven Morpheus on Sunday, September 6, 2015 10:24 AM

Hey guys

Just a quick question -

I've got Italeri's 1/48 MH-60K Blackhawk SOA kit and their 1/48 MH-60G Pave Hawk kit, I bought the MH-60K kit to use for a Gothic Serpent Super 6(x) build but realised it didn't come with the miniguns required (so I ordered some aftermarket ones from Armycast), the MH-60G kit I now also have does have the miniguns however (along with a pair of Ma Deuces)...

And I've now confused myself because I don't know which kit to use for a Gothic Serpent build...

Is there anything else missing from either kit (apart from decals which I'm aware I'll have to get from Floyd Werner or make myself) that means I can't build a Gothic Serpent H-60L from just one of the kits, I think the only thing missing from the MH-60G kit is the proper shaped nose radome (which I might be able to scratch build or borrow it from the MH-60K kit and build that kit as a 160th SOAR MH-60K)?

TIA

I can't help much on the kits since I am not familiar with them as I don't build 1/48 helos.  I can tell you the MH-60K is not correct for Op Gothic Serpent, none were there.

Thanks Heavyarty.

Thing is the MH-60K kit contains all the parts from the "Night Raid" L kit, it's essentially the same kit from what I can tell having looked at the sprues in my box and pics of the "Night Raid" sprues, there might be a few extra boxes, bumps and lumps you can put on but the basic kit appears to be the same.

The G Pave Hawk kit appears to be the same kit again minus the long tubular nose radome and M60's (or SAW's they're one of the two) but plus the miniguns and ma deuces.

Both kits come with the squared off stab.

From everything I have read, and I've had that Aeroscale thread by yourself bookmarked for a long while now as well as this one - http://www.dishmodels.ru/gshow.htm?p=428, and looking at that build, although it's in 1/35 and he used the Academy kit, I should be able to build an L no matter which of the kits I have I use, so long as I have a second pair of miniguns for the windows (which I do) and an extra nose radome.

I'm guess I'll just have to start the build and see how it goes though, I'm sure I'm missing something from the kits OOB apart from decals and 1 set of miniguns...

That sounds about right since the L and K are the same airframe with different IPs, sensors, and other bits and bobs scabbed onto them.  Good luck on it and be sure to post some pics.
