174th AHC armament
Posted by Raven Morpheus on Saturday, December 19, 2015 6:24 AM

Hey guys

Just a quick question to the great Huey knowledgebase that is the members here, as I can't find an answer so far, not even on http://www.174ahc.org.

Did the sharks ever use the quad 60's armament system like the 1/48 Revell "Huey Hog" comes with?  I'm looking for livery options for another of the Revell Huey kit I plan on building (besides my already planned Air America bird)...

TIA

Merry christmas and happy new year to you all!

So the 174th Sharks went to Vietnam in 1966.  They only had UH-1Cs in guship platoon. Sinc ethey came over in 66, it is still POSSIBLE one could have been armed with the M16 quad M60C/M157 rocket pod system, however, all the early photos I ahve seen show the M3 24shot rocket pods or M5 40mm/M157 armed "Frog" gunships.  You can easily make a Frog ship though by leaving off the quad 60's.  I think tha's what I would do if I were you.  Have a Merry Christmas and good luck!

Thanks Ray, I thought that was probably the case. I like the sharks liveries but I also want to use the quad 60's. I think I'll build the heli first and see what takes my fancy.

I haven't seen any pictures of early Sharks with the Quad 60's.  Only on pic in late 1966 that had the Mini-guns.   I'll have to ask some of the "Boat People" that went over in 1966 if they remember anything about the gun systems.  I'm guessing they were slated to get the mini-guns but they were not available when they shiped out and they were delivered later in Nam.
