Nice! I love doing helos. The clear parts are the PITA part and you did a nice job.

Thanks,

John

Looks pretty good.  The M200 rocket pods and the TOW launchers should not be grey though.  They should be the same basic color as the rest of the helo.

On the TOW launchers, the mount should be tha same color as the rest of the helo, but the tubes, which are swapped out when it is reloaded, should be green.

Yah, you're right about the gloss. Actually I ran out of the matte top coat. Another layer of matte might do the trick. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it Mongoose

The closeup shows how smooth your paint job is and i like the rockets, there seems to be good shadowing there that makes them pop (maybe your weathering). My one suggestion would be related to the gloss. I think even new they are a matte finish?

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!

My First Helo - AH1S Cobra
Posted by Lich King on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 7:38 PM

Good day guys,

here's my first Helo - the AH1S Cobra from Hobby Boss.

This is my second kit so far.

The model kit was worth the price (about $11.00). It comes in three spruces and they fit well together. As usual, everything is hand painted as I do not have an airbrush. I used Tamiya acrylics, Tamiya panel line accent, floor wax and gundam markers. (The markers are so useful in small parts)

box

As with most Helos, this was a tail sitter, so I had to put weights.

I use an electric nail file to make sanding easier

Instead of using alligator clips with sticks, I simply use these clips.

Looks ugly with the first layer of paint. I had to continously thin the paint and stir it to be consistent. Hand painting looks tedious, but this is the part that I enjoy.

After about 3 thin layers of paint, a lot of patience and 3 layers of floor wax, and more patience, here she is.

Placing the decals, panel lining, light weathering and a final top coat, here's my work:

I'm open for suggestions or comments from you guys beacuse this is my second try at this hobby.

I know I can improve better on my decals, and my painting scheme is also wrong for the Israeli Air force, I have to do better research in the future.

Hoping to hear from you guys,

Best Regards,

Victor Carlos
