Wanted to share this my former UN huey Transformed to a Hellenic Army Huey
I kitbash the Italeri and ESCI kit since the Italeri Kit have great parts and the ESCI have great part also like the main rotor system I prefere the ESCI one. The ASE is complete homemade with soda cans and plastic, all antenas are made of Guitar strings , flotables are made of palstic parts for the weathering I use pastels, and model master green mixing paints and airbrushing
Have a great day everyone
The huey looks nice in Hellenic colors. I didn't know Greece operated them. Nice work!
Beautiful.

Ask me about Speedway Decals
Where did you get your Greek decals? I'm trying to find some for several projects in the works.

Hey John
write to this docipaul@yahoo.co.uk he makes great decals!
and he know how to make the Hellenic ones
Cool, Thanks I will.
Fatpigdog...what are the long pieces on the top, next to the engine ? I have not seen that before , is it some type of filter ?
charliehueyYes they are debris deflectors
Actually, they are not. They are heat shields to make the engine area appear cooler so that a Soviet Strela heat-seaking missile will not lock onto the engine area. They are part of the Anti-Strela kit which included the engine heat shields, toilet bowl exhaust to direct the hot exhaust into the rotors to cool and disipate, and a heat shield on the underside over the oil cooler (which was also a major heat source). The Anti-Strella kit was added towards the end of the Vietnam war as Strella ant-aircraft missiles came into use. The Strella is basically the Soviet equivelant to the US Stinger missile.
You can see all of these features on the below ROK (S. Korean) and Dept. of State (I think) UH-1Hs. The DOS one also has an inlet particle seperator (debris deflector) just forward of the heat shields, just behind the rotor shaft.
