Apache Tail Number
Posted by Cobrahistorian on Monday, March 24, 2003 4:16 AM
Ok, staying modeling related here.
Did anyone see the tail number of the downed Longbow Apache in Iraq this morning? It ends with 35 and there is a 9 in there too. Because of the terrible reception on my TV, I wasn't able to see the whole thing. I've got a Revell 1/32 Apache sitting here and I think I'm going to do it in these markings. I've got the 7th Cav crossed sabers down as well as the bat markings on the tail. Just needed the tail number.

Give em hell guys, we're with you!

Tank,

Thanks! There were some still shots of the Apache there, but no shots of the tail. Neither MSNBC or BBC show the whole video.

Anyone know if there's a 1/32 conversion kit for the AH-64D out there? Scratchbuilding that radome is gonna be weird!

Also, does anyone have ideas of Longbow production block serial numbers?
If it were Cobras we were talking about, I've got em, but not Apaches! (Have to do a bit of research!)

Looks like the excrement is about to hit the whirling blades in Baghdad. Lets all hope for a quick and safe return for everyone over there.

Give em hell guys, we're with you!

Frank,

Thanks very much!
I'm putting my Cobras on hold for a bit so I can get this one done.

f you do this one, the right side (standing at the tail looking forward) did not have the fuel tank or the 2.75 rocket pod on it. It look like it had be released, or had dropped off from impact. The tail rotor blades looked like they were at 90 degrees insead of the 20 degrees of normal. The grass hid the landing gear. But judging by the height of the people standing next to it they had collapsed upon impact.

Did anyone happen to notice the damage to the tail boom? There were large open cracks on the top of the tail boom just in front of the vertical fin. I don't believe the gear completely collapsed, though it appears that they were bent pretty good.

Guys,

Looking closer there does seem to be some damage to the tailboom at the fuselage joint. I guess that's the logical spot for it to split on a hard landing. I heard he had some tail rotor hits too. The gear don't appear to be completely collapsed, because it'd be sitting on its missiles otherwise. Interesting, though, its got Hellfires outboard on the left wing and a Hydra-70 pod on the outboard right wing station. Maybe I'm just seeing this wrong.

Certainly was frustrating seeing all of those "civilians" climbing on it. Makes you want the airstrike that destroyed it to be timed a little better...

Give em hell guys, we're with you.

95135? Man, my eyes must be goin'! I couldn't make it out on any of the clips for the life of me! Tongue [:P]

Anyhoo, Cobra, or anyone else, do you happen to know if there are any decals available in 1/48 for this unit? I'd like to build the Hasegagme kit and I always like to build an historically significant subject (good, bad OR ugly!).

I admit, I'm not a rotor head. And though I have plenty of reference for the AH-64, I just haven't paid much attention to what's available in the line of fixin's or decals. Any help ya'll could throw my way would be greatly appreciated! Lord knows I need all the help I can get! Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]

THANKS!
