Yup, already got all that covered.  I am a retired Army officer, so know all about it.  She is a junior at the Univ of Central Florida (UCF) in Senior ROTC on scholarship.  This year and this summer's Advanced Camp are her key year to do well and get what she wants.  She will find out next winter what branch she gets, then get commissioned at the end of next school year.  Fingers crossed for aviation.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the conversions out, along with the kits.

Tell your daughter that when my friend went through the program they were short on Apache pilots. She'll have to work for it, though. It's still a hard platform to get into.

Also, she'll need at least 60 hours of college, plus pass an exam geared towards flight. If she's in Jr. ROTC and likes it, she might want to see if there is a Civil Air Patrol squadron she can join. They allow X number of powered and unpowered flights. I think it's four each, but don't quote me on that.  They also have programs available that can help her learn to fly. Even if she can learn the ground school portion -- navigation, various formulas used in flight, and so forth, it might help. Plus CAP will bolster what she's learning in ROTC.

Something else you guys might want to think about, is letting the military pay for her college. If she goes through a ROTC program, the military will pay for her tuition, books, room and board, and give her a living allowance. From what I understand, she can also specialize while in ROTC, so that if she wants to fly they'll start her on that path. The other benefit is that once she graduates, she'll be a 2nd Lt. Otherwise, she will have to go through at least warrant officer school.

If she's interested, her Jr. ROTC commander can help her with that. My daughter had a friend go through that program. Other than having to miss part of her summer to train, it worked out well for her.

Thanks again for the info... if nothing else, maybe I can scratch build the parts I need.... Raymond

Unfortunately, no kit yet.  The UH-60M is still pretty new and there has not been a model of it yet that I know of.

There was a conversion set from Cobra Company (now out of business) to convert the 1/35 Academy UH-60A/L into a UH-60M.  It was a pretty extensive conversion.  The Academy kits are kind of obsolete now with the excellent Kitty Hawk MH-60L kit though.  Hopefully Kitty Hawk will do an M model as well.  Lone Star Models bought the CC masters and may offer the 1/35 UH-60M conversion some time in the future.  Lone Star Models: https://www.lonestarmodels.com/

There was this post about a 1/48 UH-60M conversion on ARC a while ago.  I am not sure of how it is as some say it is good, others not so much.  http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?/topic/308654-148-uh-60m-conversion/

Good luck and congrats to the new aviator.  My daughter is in Army ROTC at UCF right now and wants to fly Apaches.  I plan on building her bird once she does as well.

Blackhawk Question

I posted this originally in the airplane forum. I have no idea why, other than I'm typically an airplane guy and a creature of habit.

I have a friend, a very bright young man, who recently recieved his wings courtesy of the U.S. Army. I'd like to build him a diorama that includes a bird he flies. The problem is that he flies the UH-61M. I cannot find a kit above the Lima model. Does anyone know of a Mike kit or a decent Lima to Mike conversion kit?
